While it is extremely wise to wear a PFD while boating, they do little to protect you from a 60MPH impact. None of the three drowned.

But opening up the throttle after dark is fucking stupid. There's always a good chance of debris, and at night, you can't see it, especially at high speed. And it sounds like the operator was very familiar with the area, and should have been aware that the tip of the jetty was coming up. And coming into the estuary (?) and back to the launch/moorage (?) WFO is also unsmart.

Sounds like a whole bunch of unsafe boating practices were at play, not just a single instance.

Shouldn't be too hard in such a town basically created by Meyer Lansky.

Third damage control objective: gather and channel the collective grief and resentment of loss felt by the Miami Cuban community into a final bitter screed against Fidel Castro and his decades long sneering triumph, however dilapidated.

No problem.

So, yeah he was a foolish and impetuous young man, but he clearly had Hall Of Fame potential. I'm reminded of a line by Robinson Jeffers,
