Any of you F'ers have a Jeep Wrangler?

Post by kcdave »

Been looking for a respectable used Wrangler every since I sold my bike last fall. I think I have found one,
just about ready to pull the trigger on it. Hard Top Sahara, I6, 5sp, A/C. Will have to buy a soft top, as I want to
store the hard top 4 mos a year. Best Top seems to be the one that peeps recommend. What else do I need to know?

Mid-life crisis checklist for those keeping score:
Trans Am bought and sold
Boat bought and sold
Bike bought and sold
Jeep?

If you get a jeep with a I6, it's gonna be pretty old. Nothing wrong with that though as it is a better engine (for a jeep) than the newer V-6s.

ok, I'll lay aside the first thought that came to mind in response...

bought a Cherokee Laredo back in the mid 90's with the express intent of climbing one of those 14'ers Tru fantasizes about, except with 4 wheel drive. Drove up the side of some mountain outside Leadville Colorado, wife and 8 year old daughter unwilling passengers. Made it up to some pass around 13,600 ft or so and there were a few other tricked out Jeeps up there already, with winches and stuff, laughing at me.

Turned right around and made my way carefully back down these narrow switchbacks, with an hysterical wife now ready to get out and walk, fantasies fulfilled.

Ever since The Garbage Corporation took them over in '87, they are the biggest pieces of crap on the road.

Not "among the biggest pieces of crap"... pretty much THE biggest pieces of crap.

But hey, lesbians like them, so you have that going for you.

And you obviously haven't researched the subject much, since no one on earth would tell you they're anything but the world's biggest crap... but you're the guy who pays money to go hand wash his car at a car wash, and to say you're "of dubious intelligence" would be understating the dumbfuckery.

At 45, I don't really suffer from any sort of midlife crises... if my brain is going that way, I don't buy a car or motorcycle... I just fuck more. But then again, I'm good looking, intelligent, and funny, putting me at least 2-up on you. You should probably stick with the cars and bikes.

Range Rover might have something to say about that, but yeah, pretty much.

In Jim Rome/kcdork speak, "Jeep Guy" comes right after "Softball Guy".

In T1B speak, now would be a good time to drive your sled off a 14'er.

As a resident of Lesbian Ground Zero, it seems the Prius is gaining a little ground, but not quite like the Wrangler and Foresters. Prius is still dominated by 60-ish over-the-hill yuppies.

What a bummer -- the Prius is actually a cool sled... but the fan club is deplorable. Sullied the name of a great around-town car. (Where I live apparently has by far the highest hybrids-per-capita... big shocker there.)

Although, I recently saw a big redneck jump out of a Prius to road-rage some fool... I had to pull over I was so tickled.

Subarus will always dominate anywhere that has to deal with a lot of rain, snow and ice. Go somewhere like Truckee or Lake Tahoe and you'll see so many Subarus that you'll think they're Toyota.

Maybe on the left coast, but not everywhere with rain, snow or ice. Very few in the northern mts of New Mexico, damn near none in Wyoming and no more than a handful in Boston/Providence. Agree they are seemingly everywhere north of SF to the Canadian border.

Around here I believe the cops encourage putting each and everyone of them (7) into the wall on the freeway.

Makes sense. I've actually always seen nothing but a lot of good reviews on the Forester, though I probably couldn't squeeze my right foot into one...
You would fit just fine in a Forester. Infinite headroom, plenty of legroom, and with the new redesign you also have more hiproom.

You would also make a fine lesbian in the Melissa Etheridge mold, so you're good to go.

I've never seen a Forrester in my neck of the woods but maybe they're more popular with folks living in the city who deal with rain, snow, and ice. You're far more likely to see F-150s and Silverados in the rural areas.

I've seen some Tundras but they're a very small part of the truck population in my part of the state. One of my insurance agents drives one but I don't know of anyone else.

No way. Spray strikes me as more of a Rosie O'Donnell sort of lesbo.

LS, you are full of shit. All of NE is full of Subies, including Boston. I think roughly 79% of the vehicles in Vermont are Outbacks. The rest are old pickups owned by farmers.

Fuck you MGO I already have close to a buzz cut.

As always 30+ posts in, and has nothing to do with the topic hand. As of the moment, not likely to get the Wrangler that I was looking at.
$1000 bucks apart, and neither I nor the owner are likely to budge.

I don't recall Jeeps being lezbo rides around here. Seems always to be Pathfinders, and Mazda Pickups.

They aren't lezzie cars around here. My son got one about 3 years ago, brand new and has had zero trouble with it. It would not be my choice of car, but once in awhile we take it out cruising with the top off and sometimes the doors. It's fun.

One thing you should know: Jeep wrangler people have a secret club. They give each other a special wave on the roads when they pass each other.
