OK, I guess I must explain this to you!! What did John Lennon mean by what he said, "Before Elvis, there was nothing"

OF course there was music before Elvis, what John lennon was saying, was that when he was in his young and informative teenage years, growing up in Liverpool, when he heard Elvis Presley, It was like being struck by lightenning!!!!

Blacks were singin the blues, whites were singin country western, jazz was jazz, swing was swing, big band was big band,

BUT ELVIS WAS ROCKABILLY!!! What John Lennon was trying to say was that , "Nothing really affected me, until Elvis",

and, not just elvis, but also chuck berry, buddy holly, jerry lee, little richard, gene vincent, the big bopper, fats, bill haley and his comets, and the list goes on and on and on and on, do ya understand????

CATCH MY DRIFT??? When jimmy page was a young impressionable LAD growing up in england, and elvis sang, "oh baby, baby baby, oh baby, baby, baby, come back baby, I wanna play house with you" EVERYTHING BECAME CLEAR!!!

THE rock GOD Jimmy page of the GOD group Led Zeppelin, said, and I quote, "when I heard elvis' Baby lets play house, right then, it all became clear", "I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life", end quote.

I hope this clears things up for you guys.

in summary... you're backtracking

Well, color me shocked.

Blind Faith = supergroup who got together and recorded one album

Travelling Wilburys = supergroup who got together and recorded one album

Procol Harem = one dozen+ albums, 40+ year career

One of these things is not like the others -- see if you can figure it out.

I mentioned Procol Hareum for the link between them and Blind Faith... Steve Winwood. I didn't really give a fuck what Mikey was talking about.
Travelling Wilburys = supergroup who got together and recorded one album
They recorded 2 albums. One in 1988 and one in 1990.
Procol Harem = one dozen+ albums, 40+ year career
40+ years give or take 15 years - they broke up in 1977 and then got back together in 1991.

Toddowen wrote: The Stones- My favorite of the bunch. The one I never seem to tire of. The ones that always have some track hidden somewhere in their massive library that keeps me nodding in the satisfaction that they're still the greatest rock and roll band in the world. Sure, there've been albums and live shows that have sucked. But as whole, they top Led Zeppelin in my book by virtue of complexity, creativity, and a massive stockpile of musical weaponry.
That last sentence is quite possibly the dumbest thing i've read on this board....outside of a let's turd post, of course.

Complexity-Zep, hands down

Creativity-very subjective. Hard to make a call.

Musical weaponry.

really?

bonzo vs charlie?

jimmy vs keef?

jpj vs whoever the fukk plays bass for the stones.

sorry, but zep buttfukks the stones right in their pieholes when it comes to musical weaponry.

also, the stones haven't done anything worth a fukk since, well, about the time bonzo cashed it in. i can promise you that had bonham not tried to drink every screwdriver in england that fateful day, they would have pwned the rock world right on through the 80s as they did the 70s.

this is not a dig at the stones. they were great. possibly the greatest pop rock group in history after the beatles. but when it comes to ass kickin' rock and roll, zep is [bradhusker]THE KING[/bradhusker]. everyone else is playing for second place.

Nope, not even once. Hearing a tune or two of theirs on the radio in the 80s was quite enough.

Love that chuck berry clip!! See, thats what I mean about the 1950's pioneers. Before the 50's, you had blues ,country and jazz and swing and big band, BUT, in the 50's, music forever changed. And, whats amazing to me is this,
The 5 greatest bands in rock n roll history ALL hail from England, and, YET, they ALL were influenced by American rock n roll!!!

For me personally, its got to be Led Zepp, HANDS DOWN. Of course I love the stones and the who and floyd and the beatles, BUT, there is something magical about zeppelin. THE SWAGGER, the cock and balls in your face ROCK N ROLL.
The cockiness and arrogance of these guys, THEY knew they were the biggest dicks on the block, and it showed when they tore up hotel rooms and fucked thousands of nubile young women and girls.

Even their manager was a big rough and tumble bloke, YES SIR, the MIGHTY Led zeppelin were indeed the BIG cocks of the walk , so to speak.

They were BIG AND BOMBASTIC, BLUES ON STEROIDS, HEAVY METAL before the term even existed. YET they could be gentle and whimsical on the mandolin, Page made a pact with Lucifer, who in turn gave Plant the entire lyrics to "stairway to heaven" in under ten minutes, while they were in an enchanted forrest sometime in the year of our Lord 1970.

Of course Satan would come to collect, and tragedy would befall these 4 men, one by one it was time to pay the piper, culminating in 1980, with bohnham choking on his own vomit, thus ending the band as we know it. TODAY, Jimmy Page Has a flowing mane of white hair, he looks like he has beaten Satan, and is on his way to heaven.

Do me a favor, Get the dvd, "It might get loud", and see Jimmy today, still get goosebumps when he begins the famous chords for "whole lotta love", YES, something about the Mighty Hammer of the GODS, the Majesty and power of Led zeppelin.
I'll pull you out of that one bunk hilton and cast you down with the sodomites. The warden, shawshank redemption.

The appreciation/respect for a particular artist may be timeless, but how can some of you fucks listen to the same shit over and over and over and over for 40+ years? I've probably discovered more new music in the last month than most of you have in a lifetime.

note that i said "back in the 80s". not sure if you are old enough to remember "back in the 80s". you see, back then in the olden days, algore was still working the bugs out of the interwebs, so logging into youtube to see stuff was kinda hard. but we americans being a resourceful bunch discovered other ways to hear music without going out and buying every album ever made. this way, we could get an idea of what they were like and maybe go out and drop a few bones on an actual album and hear more.

the nice thing about that time was that since radio stations actually had people listening to them, they tended to suck a bit less than they do today.
