RIP - Paul Splittorf

Post by War Wagon »

first pitcher in Royals history to win 20 games in a season and the all time franchise leader in career victories. Splitt never lost a game to the Yankees in the playoffs.

After he retired from baseball he went on to broadcasting and was damn good at that as well. He told it like it was and knew of what he spoke, never candy coating anything. He had a toungue in cheek way of saying things. If you weren't paying close attention, it would fly right over your head. He didn't suffer foolishness gladly.

I met him several years ago at our company Christmas party as his wife was then in charge of payroll. We talked and talked about Mizzou basketball as he was doing those broadcasts at the time.

I'll remember Paul for a lot of reasons. I'm glad I got to shake his hand.

Not here to speak ill of the dead, but this just seems like an odd thing to be remembered for seeing how he had four starts and only won one of them. Pitched well though.

2-0 in 4 starts - Reggie Jackson hated facing Splittorf.

No.

1-0 in four starts. The other win came in relief.

Not saying he wasn't a quality pitcher. I'm just saying you need to do a little more than pitch well while your team loses the series to be renowned as a "(insert team here) killer".
