Bloody Mary recipes

Post by Ken »

Not by a longshot am I a Bloody Mary connoisseur… but I do love ‘em. I only know a basic recipe, so would like to hear some others from the rest of you.
Mine:
2 parts spicy, bloody mary mix (Mrs. T’s?)
1 part vodka
Tsp of Worcestershire sauce
Tobacco to taste
Bit of horseradish
Juice of wedge of lime
Pepper

Shake with ice and pour over ice in a glass rimmed with Old Bay seasoning... especially if you’ve got a large shrimp to garnish with. Garnish with another lime wedge.

I used to work Sunday brunch behind the bar and people always seemed to appreciate my bloody marys.

In a tall glass with ice:

shot of vodka
3 or 4 shakes of celery salt
3 or 4 shakes of black pepper
two count of worcestershire sauce
2 dashes (or to taste) tabasco
about 1/2 tsp of prepared horseradish
fill with tomato juice

stir

squeeze of lime
garnish with a stick of celery

My recipe is very similar to that, except I leave out the celery salt, the pepper, the worcesteshire, the tabasco, the horseradish, and the tomato juice, lime, and celery, and the ice.

Vodka is pretty flavorless by itself. That's why it makes a good basis for a lot of mixed drinks.

Maybe you don't like mixed drinks, but that's just a matter of taste.

I'm of the mind that if you put tomato juice in my drink, I'll punch you in the face.

Vodka does quite well with most other fruit juices though.

And tequilla is pretty damned good in a margarita on a hot day. Or in straight shots when you're in a group with way too much testosterone flying around -- in that case, the worse the rot-gut tequilla, the better.

I'd discuss maragaita recipes, but after a couple, juicing limes becomes way too much work, so marg mix out of the bottle becomes the preferred method.

I have learned that cheap blenders don't survive very long when used to make slushies-for-grownups -- one needs a serious kitchen appliance to make multiple batches without ruining the party with a cloud of acrid electrical smoke.

And leaving a spoon in the blender because you're drunk and forgot -- serious health hazard... I recommend against it.

...and the vodka.

Vodka sucks ass. It might actually be worse than tequila.
vodka's no different than any other spirit. you get what you pay for. the first 35 years of my life, I shared your opinion. then my bro in law mixed me a ketel one and soda with a lime slice. i became an instant vodka fan for life.

and rack dins' take on tequila. there is good tequila for civilized occasions and there is drunken idiot tequila. there is one purpose and one purpose only for drunken idiot tequila. it is basically a stomach eviction notice party. you and your buds just keep slamming the stuff until much projectile vomiting ensues.

good times.

actually, it is good times once you learn the water trick. the water trick is making sure there is plenty of fresh cold water around to drink after the projectile vomiting party is done. if there isn't, the dry heaves party commences.

not such good times.

there is prolly something that sux worse than a bad tequila induced bought of dry heaves. maybe flying your luge head first into a steel pole at 89 mph sux worse, but, i doubt it.

My only rule with Tequila (other than not consuming it since it tastes like ASS), is keeping it as far away from women as humanly possible. Something about that stuff turns them into violent, evil psycopaths. And not in that natural, every day sorta way.

Interesting theory... I always figured it was when they breathed oxygen that did it.

Ever have those pre-made TGIF blender drinks, like mudslides and shit?

With great shame, I admit those fuckers are pretty good when it's 983 degrees outside.
