Still the same weight, but, I have been moving it around a bit. If I can find the self discipline to bike commute better than half the time, I should be able to whittle away 15 or 20 lbs this summer.

Update:

I drink more beer than a fraternity house. I eat whatever I want, whenever I want, of any fat content I want (although I generally like to keep the fats low, but I'll splurge on saturated fats to a ridiculous level a couple of times a week).

Although I lead a very active lifestyle by nature, my only intentional exercise is riding a bike a few blocks to the store to buy smokes (although rowing a boat down the river is great exercise, which I've been doing as much as possible, although I haven't been hauling around the extra weight of too many stellhead lately).

And I'm still known as The Skinny Fuck. The ribs still stick out, and I still can't keep a pair of pants up without a belt.

so i slacked off on the diet last year...only came away with losing like 15 lbs over about a 4 month period. Wasn't doing anything to help the loss besides just eating right.

well i started back up 3 weeks ago. cut out all the fast food (with the exception of a mcchicken every friday after work. them bitches are good and it's how i reward myself for a week of working out...300 calories -the mayo adding the mustard with extra lettuce). no soda pop, cutting back on the heavy carbs and i've started running in the evening and JUMPING ROPE in the morning.

i lost 5.3 lbs the first week of running a mile in the morning..2 miles in the evening...but started reading that jumping rope burns more lbs per minute than jogging does..so i got me a jump rope...a cheapo one...broke it after the 2nd day. (my fat ass stepped on teh rope and it popped out of the handle). so i spent 10 bucks and got me a gold's gym rope with weighted handles...

the difference has made leaps and bounds...i was struggling at first to jump 20 times in a row but after 2 weeks of doing it i can do about 150 before my body tells me to take a break...i try to do 1k in the morning and 1.5k in the evening along with a mile jog...i ended up losing 7lbs the 2nd week and back down to 5 the 3rd week. (now in the middle of my 4th week).

kinda went off subject of the forum but eh...been eating baked chicken and lots of salads with those spray salad dressings...i really dindt like the idea of getting my dressing from a spray bottle...but the italian dressing isnt bad at all..

Checking in at a svelte 235, down 20lbs from late July. Got some blood work back after a physical and my doctor said that my triglycerides were as high as "an end-stage Type II diabetic". But she said that there was no scientific reason for it, as all of my other tests came back normal. ...so I've got that going for me, which is nice. Anywho, she said something about pancreatic fuckuppery and extended hospital stays on the horizon, so some slight alterations were in order.

She gave me some handout that was two pages of stuff I can't eat. The cliff notes version was "anything but alfalfa sprouts and apple cores." So I eat a ton of vegetables (sup Schaivo) and fruits, and mix in some carbs and protein. I'm pretty handy with a spice cabinet, so it's not as big of a deal as I thought at first. I also eat about five times a day and drink lots of water so that I don't feel hungry. It's been great so far, as I'm not giving up taste and don't feel like I'm starving. I also make sure to eat horrible food for one lunch and one dinner per week so that I don't burn out on eating good all the time.

I've lost 20 lbs in just over two months and because I've got more sports injuries than Jim Otto, I've barely exercised. Probably about another month and a half and I won't be able to post in this thread anymore. :D

Oh, and a big thanks  goes out to my Old Man, who when told that I had record-breaking triglycerides, said, "Oh yeah, that runs on my side of the family bigtime. My sister's been on meds for that for 25 years." Thanks, ass.

Props on the weight loss. Keep up the good work.

I'm about the same weight you're at right now and would like to get down to the 200 - 210 range. May start trying again soon.

First time I had my cholesterol tested, about 20 years ago, it came back at about 450 total  mostly because of the triglycerides. I inherited this condition from my mom, bless her heart. The advice that they gave back then was just to eliminate fat, and that stuff like breads and pasta couldn't hurt you. Eventually I realized that was complete bullshit. I went on Atkins a few years ago and got down to about 215 but coudn't sustain it. One thing that did happen, though, when cutting out the carbs was that my triglycerides dropped off the chart -- well at least into the normal range. Now, with Vytorin and at least trying to control the carbs my numbers are pretty good.

I'm about ready to join this thread. I need to lose 15 lbs, and this is the WRONG fucking time of year to try to do it. My knee is healed so I will be able to get back on the treadmill. I can't run on pavement. Kills my back. Wife loves taking walks so I may join her in that pushing the cock blocks in stroller. I hate diets and prefer to lose it with exercise, but I may need to cut back in some areas. I cook like Paula Deen. Need to mix in some healthy shit too.

I quit chewing tobacco about a year ago which is where this 15 lbs came from I think. Eating a half bag of cheetos at 10PM when I would normally be chewing does not help. I need to invest in rice cakes. I actually like those anyway.

Also, fucked up my knee earlier in the year too which limited my mobility and exercise.

Indy,
I've been told by a few diff people that flat running (treadmill) is one of the worst things you can do for your knees and ankles.

stair steppers are the way to go...or if you can get ahold of one of these

Image

it's MUCH easier on the joints as well as a helluva workout. 30 minutes to an hour on one of these thingsis the shit.

If it's any consolation, Mikey, I've got to shut it down for a while with a bad wheel. Best case scenario it's tendonitis in calf region.

all you old fukks that insist on treating your knee cartilage like m2 treats his prostate, really need to look into bike riding. I'm still about even with mikey and OCD in the poundage department, but, that's due partly to me not getting on the bike often enough, still eating like a pig and being 50% dago. My knees however are fabulous. Couldn't say that 5 years ago when I ran on occasion.

If you do consider getting a bike, get a fukking decent one. Check your LBS (local bike shop) if you are rich like 88 or indy. Otherwise check craigslist.

I could not agree more with this. I have a shitty $100 mountain bike that was given to me for college by my brother as a present. That was 15 years ago. My son asked me why I never ride my bike so I aired up the tires and rode a bit on it. Holy fuck my ass was killing me the next day.

I would love to get back into biking. Used to do it a lot. Never have found a bike that was real comfortable for me, and I don't want one of those granny seats.

I don't have a recumbent, but at some point I probably will. I enjoy long bike rides, and would like to continue to improve in that regard...but I'm not a big fan of sitting on a small bike seat for 3+ hours at a time. Recumbents ease the strain on your arse and focus the workout on your legs.

svelte
adjective
1. slender, esp. gracefully slender in figure; lithe.
2. suave; blandly urbane.
Gracefully bland sounds about right to me.

I found out 3 weeks ago that my bad cholestoral is a little high (105) and my doc wants it down to 70-80. I've replaced vegetable oil with canola oil, egg beaters instead of the real eggs fried in bacon grease, eating oatmeal and wheat toast in the morning, more veggies, and snacking on fruits/carrots instead of chips and dip and junk food. My total cholestoral was only 165 and my wait is steady at 180 pounds. I've been working out 3-4 days a week but nothing too strenuous (stretching, crunches, light weights) but would like to get a decent bike this spring. I have a cheap mountain bike but gave it to my son to ride around campus while he's in school, so I'd like to find something better/more comfortable but relatively inexpensive. Any suggestions for what I should be trying to buy? I won't be going on any 50-100 mile treks, just something to ride around town instead of driving. There's a good bike shop about 20 miles from where I live, and I could pick up a used bike, but I need to know what type of bike would best suit my needs.

Also, anyone have some good recipes for someone trying to lower their bad cholestoral?

1 tblt Lipitor
1 tblt Zetia
4 tbs oat bran
4 grams fish oil

Combine in any way you like. Consume daily.

As a variation, mix in some daily exercise.

Eat salmon at least once a week an add an Omega-3 fish oil supplement to your daily pill pile. I've tried a bunch of brands and Spring Valley is the only one that didn't give me pussylicker's breath.

check out bikeforums.net

it is a very active board, unlike this shithole. you can get lots of info there. get a decent bike and you may rethink that 50-100 mile thing. 50 miles on a good bike that fits you properly is a piece of cake. 100 miles? i'll let you know when i do one. once you figure out what kind of bike you want, start checking out craigslist and i don't mean the section dins frequents. my recomendation, for starters would be a good older road bike. there are all sorts of 80s vintage good quality road bikes out there. they are mostly steel framed which means they ride like caddies unlike my al lou minnie ummm trek roadbike that rides like a shopping cart (still love it).

if you have any back, neck or wrist issues, give recumbents a look. being an old timer, you'll look right at home on one. they are comfy as hell. pretty much like riding a lawn chair.

we recently bought a very nice recumbent stationary bike and i love the thing. my package loves it even more as the recumbent does not put it into a sleeper hold like upright exercise bikes do.
