The crew should see if they can do some "consulting" for this. Why don't you PM douchebag the UAW goon's email address.

This will be interesting...I imagine protest group are licking their chops at the prospect of what they perceive to be small-town security. The truth is, security will be handled by the professionals that always handle events such as these. They will work with local enforcement groups - actually they have been doing so already for at least a month. If anything, law enforcement will have the upper hand because Pittsburgh is not as difficult to cover as other larger cities.

Care to expand on that? Smaller cities have smaller departments. Sure, multiple agencies will be handing this (spearheaded by the Secret Service). But I don't know how you think your city would be any better to handle it than Seattle's (besides not having that kook of a police chief Seattle had back then).

There's two reasons I can think of.

1. For once, having some of the worst roads and the most incomprehensible road naming conventions will be a help to Pittsburgh. Half the protesters will be wandering around trying to figure out how to get and stay on the damned yellow loop. Or orange, or green loops for that matter.

2. The topography of Pittsburgh makes large scale gatherings much more difficult. Put the conference in the right spot, and you'll be lucky to get 5,000 protesters within sight of the meeting spot. Between the hills and the rivers, there's a lot of natural barriers in Pittsburgh.

Wasn't the place where the crew had their pburg welcoming party called the point? I assume it is at the intersection of a few rivers. Have it there. I doubt the crew wants to set foot back into that place, no matter how lucrative the consulting fees.

G20??

Shit, I about had a heart attack, thinking I'd missed the news.

"Really? G3 is now G20? Holy crap!"

That'd be incredible, but man, it'd take forever. Before they even got half way through the line up I'd already be deaf.

G20? Hmmm. Who would be invited?

First, the obvious people, the previous G3 people...

Satch
Vai
Eric Johnson
Petrucci
Robert Fripp
Yngwie
KWS
Steve Morse
Billy Gibbons
Neal Schon
Paul Gilbert

Then there'd be the obvious guys who haven't gotten to do it yet...

DiMeola
Kirk Hammett (Friend and student of Satch)
GG
Bonamassa

What about the obvious Classic Rock Brits?

Page
Clapton
Beck
Gilmour
Knopfler

Yeah, that'd work. That'd be a nice G20.

I'd include Alvin Lee over Mark Knopfler.

That would be Jeff Beck, not Beck Hansen.

And a dead guy typically doesn't make anyone his bitch.

Smackie, there's a good baker's dozen worth of worthy choices. I went with Knopfler just for being a lot "bigger" name than Lee.

Among the Classic Rock Brits other obvious choices would include Blackmore, Iommi, Townshend, Trower, Adrian Belew and Steve Howe.

Then there are Classic Rock Euros such as Uli Roth and Michael Schenker.

What about EVH, Johnny Winter, Nugent, Reb Beach and Steve Lukather?

Limiting it to twenty, even that could prove difficult.

Not really. Never mind guys like GG and Joe Bonamassa, even among dead guys there are people like SRV, Danny Gatton and Shawn Lane who would rip Hendrix's head off.
I am surprised an old fart like you Van, would appreciate Beck...
Why? Wouldn't my age make me more likely to appreciate Beck? I'm nowhere near the oldest guy here but I'm old enough to remember Beck when he was at his peak of popularity, and I'm old enough that I saw him play with SRV.

You lost me there, dude.

In a G3 (or G20) setting?? It's not even worth debating. There are few people on this planet who can cut heads with Vai, and Hendrix would be completely out of his depth in such a setting.

Pitting Hendrix against Vai in a head cutting duel would be positively cruel to Hendrix.
Steve Vai is a better guitarist than Jimi?
In every single way, and it's not even close, except for blues playing. Hendrix was the better blues player, mainly because Vai just cannot bring himself to play blues and stick to it.

Hendrix was a better song writer than Vai. Hendrix was a better singer than Vai. Hendrix was a far more important guitarist than Vai, in the overall scheme of things. Hendrix was way more influential.

He's nowhere near the guitarist, however.
You've got life all fucked up....
Nope, I'm just realistic, and I know enough about each guitarist to know that Hendrix isn't on the same planet as Vai, not as a guitarist.

You wanna know who actually is on the same planet as Vai, as a guitarist?

GG
Steve Morse
Satch
Allan Holdsworth
Petrucci
DiMeola
Andy Timmons...

...and a few other guys you've probably also never heard of before.
Dude , you need to be urinated on by Keith Moon......
John Bonham owned Keith Moon.

True, Santana would certainly need to be included on any list of Classic Rock guitarists.

He's a very minor entity, purely as a guitarist, since he's an awfully pedestrian player, but he's certainly earned a mention.

I'm surprised you didn't also include the fact that I mistakenly labeled Adrian Belew a Brit. Dude's from Kentucky, which really isn't Blighty. This sort of error on my part must be an indicator of an even deeper and more vapid, fuckstickin' bigotry.

How 'bout John Mayer? Yeah, I know he should be shot for horrible pop crooning, but, dude can play the blues better than any white boy* since Stevie.

Well, yes of course GG can play them better, but, he's not a whiteboy. He's G fukkin' G!!!!! He's his own species.

Mayer's good, but he's no Joe Bonamassa...or Jeff Healey. Not even close. Anyway, besides Clapton I didn't mention any blues guys, and Clapton's British Classic Rock royalty.

The point being, G3 (or G20) is not really about pentatonic blues players like Mayer.

Well, check that. For some odd reason they did include KWS, a long time ago. Billy Gibbons also guested on one tour. That was a weird one, though, having a blues player like KWS as one of the three headliners on a G3 tour. Even there, KWS is much more of an SRV-clone jam player than Mayer, who's more of a pop crooner.

Mayer is an underrated blues player, I'll give you that. He's very good. People just don't want to give him any credit, because of his pretty boy/pop icon status.

Dig into some Joe Bonamassa, and Robben Ford. You'll quickly realize that no, John Mayer is not the best white blues player since SRV.

Speaking of which, how could I forget ol' "Monster Face," Gary Moore? There's another white blues player/British Classic Rock icon who's far better than Mayer, and he's also "rock" enough to be prefect for G20.

As for Gary Moore, yeah, he can more than hold his own. He can flat out Xerox B.B. King, but B.B. couldn't even begin to do what Moore can do.
