Like many out there, I recently got my permit to carry. I gave no thought about the possibility of the new administration removing our 2nd amendment rights. Besides, if word got out to me that Barak's Brigade was coming down my street to collect all my registered firearms, I'd claim that "they were just stolen last night ...probably by a couple of 'groids'."

Obama didn't influence me in the least. I'm just feeling the need for some personal protection from the crime wave we're all likely to see.

So I guess you could say that I'm a little concerned about the near term.

So, m2.....are you feeling all so giddy about the new Obama Administration? Why, it seems only yesterday that W beat Gore and you were exclaiming that you had never seen Americans in every corner of the country so vexed and angry.

Yep....smiles all around now.
You are a fucking idiot. The article posted is discussing stocks, bonds, real estate, etc. and you chirp in with fucking snopes rejected fairy tales. You should own a gun. Maybe your paranoid is justified. If it came down to every man for himself, I wouldn't feel the least bit guilty putting a hammer over your head to take your food to feed more worthy humans. God knows the only thing that has kept a dumbshit like you alive for several decades are modern conveniences of McDonald's, insulin, breathing apparatuses, plumbing, couch cushions etc. Fuck that! The bailout bill is laughably absurd.
It'll pass, imo.

A complete meltdown of the dollar is in our future, imo again.

Don't get caught with yer pants down.

The TARP situation is the worst, in my view. What a mouth-buttfucking we got there. We handed financial institutions hundreds of billions of dollars and invited them to do what they pleased with it without even the barest hint of oversight. More than anything else, this clearly indicates the tenuous situation we're in, where the institutions we rely on shake up down and then thumb their noses at us.

But of course, this is all Obama's fault, right?

America’s Second Great Depression is now inevitable.
Bullshit.

It's inconceivable that another could take place, to that extent, anyway. Too many programs in place to prevent such a re-occurence.

I hope.

Scary shit indeed.

I'm willing to bet that most people don't have much of a nest egg left especially if they've recently lost a job or their house. Many are up to their ears in debt and just getting by paycheck to paycheck. If my job disappeared tomorrow I could probably hold on for a few months then it's bye-bye house.

Of course, who will be there to buy it? No one.

And I'm one of the lucky ones?

I feel ya, Socal. I'm pretty much in the same boat, just add a few more months.

I very recently had my place appraised again and was shocked to see that I still had quite a bit of equity in it-especially in this market. I guess I can honestly say I picked a great location to buy. Still, I have a few buddies who werent so lucky, and are sweating bullets right now.

I'm just happy that I dont have kids-I'm willing to take my medicine if I fuck up, but it would absolutely suck to watch a wife and children suffer because of my stupidity, which some friends are dealing with now in thier lives.

Great read 88, and many good points made by Weiss. The TARP is a joke-period.

Good luck dudes. RJ said it best, hope for the best and prepare for the worst as best you can. It's the only thing that can be done.

or "Fuck Everything and Run". I prefer the former.

Good Luck and Godspeed team. These are trying times upon us and ahead. But we'll come out the other side stronger and wiser - for a little while anyway - until the next period of "irrational exuburance" hits.

In 2010 we can try. But it will take "grass roots" efforts. "Community organizing" and a whole lot of unpaid man-hours to do that. Big hill to climb. Until the mainstream media outlets, who seem aligned with one party or another, see that there is money to be had in featuring some of the newer, fresher, bolder third party candidates, they won't do it. If they have a D or an R next to their name, they're suspect, no matter what they're spewing.

Who do I blame? I think that as a society, we have been living beyond our means for decades. I think that is coming home to roost. When we're talking about trillions of dollars of bailouts, we've started to babble and believe nonsense.

We are hearing that Obama's bailout contains a lot more safeguards...but probably, that will prove to be bullshit also.

This guy is an idiot. Too much liquidity brought about by artificially low interest rates used to prop up unsustainable growth is the proximate cause of meltdown in the first place. We are due for a serious contraction and there is nothing Onogger or the Fed can do to stop it. Keeping the interest rates low will only add a big slice of inflation to this shit sandwich.

The interest rates must come up. The economy could use some serious deflationary pressure right about now. Contractions are a necessary part of the economic cycle of life. Political desperation makes for disasterous economic policy. The market can and will correct itself without political intervention, but Odumbo seems bound and determined to repeat the failed policies of the past.

I majored in Econ as an undergrad and learned the essentials that define the cycles of capitalism. One clear tenet I instilled from my studies particularly when the cycles depress, is that pain will be felt by the populace until the bad times turn around to the good times. I foresee intense pain across the world this time around and will only expect more pain for the time being, perhaps a couple of years...

Such is the dismal science, the science of economics.

However, what I appreciate from my understanding of the discipline, is that it is not an exact science and while this down cycle goes forward, the different views of competing economists will be quite fascinating to weigh....... The Keynesian approach is IMO needed, and the severe depression of the 30's created the Federal Reserve. I'm not a Phd in this field, but some sort of mechanism ought to be developed to keep the scions of Wall Street in line, or at least close to it.

I almost wish I was back in the economics classrooms, to gauge the ideas and positions that are undoubtedly being expressed. This time around, the net exists and it did not back in my time.

Finally and in closing, it's a miracle that I remember what I remember from the good time college days, because I was a party animal like that swimmer dude in the news w/the bong :)

Definitely true.

Individuals and the government need to balance their budgets, work, and SAVE.

The American people (as a whole, not YOU, War Wagon haha) are fat, drunk, and stupid.
And that's no way to go through life, son.

The gov has built up an unfathomable debt, and their solution is basically to ... take on more debt to dig their way out of it. lol

You seriously can't make this shit up.

Max out a credit card, and instead of balancing your budget and living within your means so that you can pay off the card, what do you do?
Oh, easy, boss ... I take out another credit card.

Suicide.

If you want to stimulate the economy, to cut to the chase, you need to get people to spend money.
When people spend money, businesses do better.
They can then hire more employees.
Things get healthier.

Cut gov spending drastically, give people a LARGE tax rebate, cut capital gains taxes, and cut business taxes.
This is what you need to do.

What is entirely reprehensible is that Obama, Pelosi, etc., have taken this serious downturn in the economy as an opportunity to try to jam a horseshit bill down the throat of the American people which is full of social engineering cr@p that the liberals have been wanting to pass through for a long time.

Anyone voting YES for the bailout should be shot in the head.

Just like FDR did in the 30's. His horrendous spending prolonged the depression, until WWII came along and fixed for him. Then he took all of the credit. I think were he should get credit is where his administration baited the Japs because he knew his 'new deal' wasn't working. Here we are 60 years later trying a failed concept again.

Funny how there isn't any talk of how we're supposed to pay for this piece of shit.

I guess only in Wagon World are these two mutally exclusive.

As a philosophy, I would recommend that War Wagon work and save his money.

As a philosophy, I would further recommend that War Wagon relax, have some fun, and SPEND whatever discretionary income he has left over after paying his bills and putting savings away.

You follow so far?

If War Wagon has MORE discretionary income, he can SPEND more, which definitely helps the economy.

War Wagon WILL have more discretionary income IF the government allows him to keep more of his own money.

^^^^^^^^^

No one even addresses that question !!
Must be only two ways--- #1--print up more money. How do you spell inflation ? Welcome to the Carter years.
#2--borrow it. From whom ?? The Chinese--our children and grandchildren in the form of IOU's ??

What if this was your own personal finance. Would you borrow more money if you were in debt ??
Good luck everyone !

Good question. In fact, the question has been valid for a long time. How exactly have we been generating prosperity during the past 20-25 years? We've been steadily decreasing our industrial output over that period. We've been clucking our tongues appreciatively at wealth generated in the margins of our economy. I guess we're as rich as we say we are...for a while. I think even retirees sitting in hot tubs guzzling Diet Piss are going to have to sit back and honestly assess things, as little as they are used to that.

Well, first off not many can get credit right now. So not sure if that is a valid question. However, since you asked, yes, I am borrowing more money right now. My wife and I still owe money on our primary home via a mortgage, but we have also just purchased two other properties. Both are in markets in Texas where the real estate wasn't over inflated and therefore isn't busting like 98% of the country. One we might hold onto and one is strictly for resale in a few years.

If you can get the credit right now is a great time to buy real estate from owners needing to cash out now to avoid bankruptcy or from the banks left holding the properties.
