Article on the recruiting QB's

Post by .m2 »

from one of the Bowden's: link

Great article.

The problem with Terry Bowden's story is...

...that Jay Barker never went from being a high school QB who threw "6-7 passes per game" to being a standout gunslinger at 'Bama.

In those years and in those Gene Stallings' "offenses," Jay Barker's role was to hand off the ball to guys like Siran Stacy or to pitch it to David Palmer. Even at that time, commentators and football writers noted that Jay Barker's best attribute was that he didn't screw up or try to do too much. Finally, the truth of the matter is that Alabama's 'D' in those years, led by Antonio Langham in the secondary and some absolute beasts on the D-Line, was probably responsible for as many points per game as was the Tide 'O.'

Aaron Rodgers would have been a much better example of no-name prep who became a stud QB in major college football. But using Rodgers as the example would not have allowed Tiny Tot to insert himself into the story, and as any SEC fan knows, Terry's stories always involve Terry.
