Theo Epstein hitting the crack pipe... AGAIN!!!:::

The Sux will be paying 14 million/year for DL Drew and 9 million/year for Julio fucking Lugo.

DL Drew is a fucking baby and averages about 120 games played , 20 HR, and 70 RBI for his cancer, errr, career. DL will be playing for his 4th team in five years.

Lugo is a decent hitter who makes a lot of errors. He's an improvement over Alex Gonzales as a hitter, but Gonzo is probably the best fielding shortstop in the game.

Both players are 31 years old and on the back nine of less than stellar careers.

To put this in the proper perspective, the Sux will be paying DL Drew 1 million more/year than they pay David Ortiz. Did I mention....

Epstein should be run out of town by the end of the 2007 season. I still say the Matt Clement signing will prove to be the worst move of his brief and horrible career, but these two stiffs will prove to be numbers 2 and 3. Not to mention trading away the 2006 NL ROY and also the 2006 NL batting champ. What good has Theo done the Sux besides sign Curt Schilling? Nothing!

Led them to their first World Series title in 86 years??

I don't like Theo however. The polls in the papers around here showed 81% of Sox fans did not want JD Drew. The money really isn't that much when you consider what has been thrown around this offseason. Gary Matthews Jr got 10 million a year for crying out loud!! Hell Manny at 20 million is a bargain now. It's scary the money that is being thrown around on mediocre talent....

manny ramirez was mvp of that series and he was signed before lil theo showed up. face it, the majority of theo's moves have been dreadful since taking over as gm.

The majority are awful and thats why I said I don't like him. I especially don't like him for that little take his ball and go home stunt that he pulled on them last offseason. He lost me there. He did however sign David Ortiz, Keith Foulke, Curt Schilling, and those three signings alone did help them win that World Series. It's bittersweet for me. On the one hand I hate him and his smarmy attitude, but I also have to give him his props for getting the job done that many others could not.

RACK

as to the original take...

Lugo at 9 is better than Drew at 14. Way too much for Drew, a little too much for Lugo who has developed into a very good offensive threat at a position that is rare at.

Interesting moves by Theo. Manny for Peavy on the horizon?

The Sox don't need a starter. Lester's cancer is in full remission and they're close to signing Dice Gay Mat Zu Cocka. Lester, Dice Man, Schilling, Beckett, and Papelbon are your starting 5. Wakefield is the back-up plan in case someone gets hurt.

Additionally... word around town is... get ready for it. Are you ready?????

Ramirez appears to be staying. Which sucks for me because I bet a buddy of mine in August (when Manny quit on his team, EEERRRRRRR, developed chronic patella tendonitis) that dude would be traded.

The Drew signing actually makes a lot more sense if they KEEP Manny. Still overpaid though. Drew protecting Papi would have been TEH SUCK!

The Manram for Peavy trade is a rumor, though. Maybe and hopefully a bad one.

The Peavy rumor is an old one, my friend. The Lester news on Tuesday pretty much signaled the end of a possible Manny trade for a top flight starter.

I agree...
The Drew signing actually bolsters the argument for Manny staying. If DL stays healthy, that'd make a deece 3-4-5, not to mention, L-R-L.

I can't wait until the Sux sign Gagne for 13 million per over 4 years. Throw another 7 per at a set-up man and it'll be Evil Empire Part Deaux in Beantown.

RACK this take. Lugo and Drew are terrible. So is Crisp. When's the last time you saw 3 consecutive regulars in a row (batting 8th, 9th, and 1st) in an AL batting order who weren't hitting above .230? Pathetic...

Not sure where you are going with this? True, they are sucking swamp water, but the last time I checked teams were allowed to send more than 3 batters up to the plate during a game. When Lowell starts his slump, I expect to Drew and or Lugo find their stride and the team won't miss a beat. It's a long season and everyone hits peaks and valleys.

In case you missed it, the thread subject might have clued you in as well. This thread is about how shitty I thought the Lugo and Drew signings were. And, my thoughts on Theo's moves in general. I was just bumping it to twist the knife into Sux fan's back a little.

Now I've schooled you on what this thead is all about (hey, you asked :meds: ), you may continue on with your usual dumbfuckery. Layte.

Funny. Last time I looked (about 45 seconds ago) they still had the best record in MLB.
I guess some people just love to bitch.

I'll be at Petco litterbox next Friday attempting to root them on to one additional loss.

Neither Drew or Lugo have played to their salaries.. so far.

But the Yankees' Cashman (interesting name for a Yankee GM) have made more than their share of $$$ Blunders!

Giambi $23+ Million (I would rather have Drew AND Lugo than have Giambi- 2 for slightly less than the price of this one.)
Pavano $10 Million
Randy Johnson - $18+ Million
J. Vazquez
Kevin Brown
Contreras
Roger Freaking Clemens at $4.5 million per month!!!

******************

Either way, to you or me... wasting $10-20 Million on a player that doesn't live up to his potential would be considered significant.

To both the Yankees and Red Sox, losing $10-$20 million on a player that doesn't live up to expectations is an acceptable loss!

It's like spending $100 at the Casino, you want to win but you can afford the loss as purely entertainment!
What good has Theo done the Sux besides sign Curt Schilling?
In 2004 he engineered the first World Series championship by the Red Sox in 86 years.
In addition to acquiring Schilling to help the Sox finally win a World Series,
He acquired:
Keith Foulke- Sox needed a closer.
Traded Nomar for Mientkiewicz and Cabrera, Sox needed Defense.

The Best Moves
David Ortiz, free agent. In 2003, the Twins had given up on the swing and miss slugger, but Epstein saw potential available at a bargain basement price. Five years later, Big Papi is competing for MVP honors in the Red Sox lineup.

Curt Schilling for Casey Fossum, Brandon Lyon, Jorge de la Rosa and Michael Goss. Ever hear of any of these guys? Didn’t think so. Schilling’s bloody sock was the battle cry of the victorious Red Sox in the 2004 ALCS.

Mark Loretta for Doug Mirabelli. Loretta started for the Sox and made the All-Star team, while Mirabelli was benched and eventually traded back to the Red Sox. You do the math.

The Worst Moves
Matt Clement, free agent. Clement’s great stuff attracted the Red Sox, but his 4 year, $40 million contract is still a big albatross. He’s not pitching now due to injury, but we’re not sure we want him to pitch for us, even if he could.

Edgar Renteria, free agent. The Sox could have re-signed Orlando Cabrera, but they paid big bucks for Renteria instead. Despite a fair year at the plate, his failings in the field and buckling under pressure made him a big scapegoat in Boston.

Doug Mirabelli for Cla Meredith and Josh Bard. After getting such a good deal for trading Mirabelli away, why would Theo pull the trigger on this one? This was a panic move for someone who could catch Tim Wakefield’s knuckleball. Meredith is setting records with scoreless inning streaks, and Bard’s bat appears to be coming around to complement his defensive skills.

Jeremy Giambi for Josh Hancock. Epstein traded a promising young pitcher for a guy who could get on base a little and was a trainwreck in the outfield. Giambi, supposedly in the best shape of his life, spent a lot of time on the DL and was shut down in August for the year. He was released after the season.

Jury’s Still Out
Wily Mo Pena for Bronson Arroyo. So far, Cincinnati has the better end of the bargain by a significant margin. But Pena has shown some potential, and may yet make this one worthwhile.

Coco Crisp, David Riske and Josh Bard for Andy Marte, Kelly Shoppach and Guillermo Mota. It’s tempting to say that Epstein and his staff botched this one, as Crisp has yet to do much in Boston. But I’m willing to put this deal here for now, because of his three good years in Cleveland before the trade and the injury.

Credit.. http://redsox.wordpress.com/2007/03/31/ ... o-epstein/

My opinion on Theo... He's a lucky son of a bitch and I would like to have his job for 3 years. You could write all the crap you wanted about me but I would have a dream job and you would still be wasting your time!

Hey Jack,

Is it possible for you to defend your chode-sucking squad without a reference to the ass-stabbing Yankees? I have never seen such a quivering pile of dumbfuck as your pathetic ass. Take some pride in your over-achieving, cash-strapped  squad. I hope they can afford to reach deep and compete with the evil StankJeterisaFagEvenThoughHe HasSexwithHotChicks. I suppose chowdfan can always take pride in the fact that their cuntishness has forced Oriolefan to defend the ****ees. (FUCK JEFFREY MAIER, I hope your mom gets a rash in her butthole after it is violated by an Sino-American marionette. Fuck you and the Brewers.)

To close, Jack is a dumb bitch who can only defend his fag team by degrading another fag team. Therefore, both teams are full of fags, the Blue Jays are Canadian fags, and the Orioles are the win. Brian Roberts = all-star.

YOU made a stupid fucking statement. One you didn't back up with any sort of stats, anecdotal evidence, or even any personal opinion besides "one of the best."

Of course, the reason you didn't, is because there isn't one scrap of evidence to support it.

Fukkk wonderboy and his spread sheets and formulas. I was watching him get interviewed the other day and he was talking about that new kid that threw the no hitter a few weeks back. Forgot his name. No wonder I forgot it because he got sat down for 2 weeks after that game. Hell, the sox are so loaded with pitching right now, no need to work him.

WTF, theo, you little pussy? He was blabbing on about his age, pitch counts and something else, lunar eclipse schedule, I think.

Fukk this guy. The sox need an experienced baseball dude, not a fukking accountant.

So, you were there when they won it. BFD. Dumb luck. Then you very quickly dismantled that team. And how many of those guys are buttfukking you in the mouf, now?

Nice job getting rid of Cabrerra and Mankowietchkzyczky...ahhh fukk pollock names.

Surprised somebody in RSN hasn't offed this punk yet and buried his ass in the big dig somewhere.

Just announced that buckholtz will sit out the rest of the season.

wtf?

this fukking kid throws a no hitter and is rewarded with being pretty much shelved the rest of the season?

wtf are they saving him for? what is all this bullshit i hear about going so fukking slow with young players? He's 23 fukking years old. He's been around awhile. Get him out there working. Give him some post season experience now.

Fukk you theo and fukk you too jerry remy, you fukking lap dog. I can hear it in your voice that you think this is as dumb as I do, but, I guess lil' theo signs your paycheck too.

I'll go out on a limb and guess that maybe, like many folks, he used his middle name on an every day basis, which would make him jon drew. Folks could then call him JD for short.

Or maybe he didn't want to be DJ Drew which sounds like a bad rap name.
