2nd User Security/Pop-up Question

My girlfriend is visiting me, and I've let her use my computer. She's using her own user sign-on.

When she goes to websites that I've already ok'ed with Panicware Popup Stopper she's unable to click on emoticons like the ones to the left here or click on links that open a separate browser window. Any suggestions on what could be causing this?

Anyhoo, I had the same problem with many things while using IE/Panicware, particularly applet windows. Those problems were all solved when I switched to Firefox.

That's my solution.

If the problem is opening seperate windows, then its the popup blocker. What do you use to do popup blocking. You may have your security setting a little too high for her. Also you may need to add the websites into the popup blocker. Look under Tools menu for pop-up blocker and look under the settings.

The easiest way is to just disable that blocker while she's using it. As long as you have updated your virus protection you'll be fine. Just disable the blocker during the session she/he logs into and don't get fancy with the settings.

I spose what I meant to say is that your popup stopper sucks ass. Both IE and firefox now have popup blocking built in so just upgrade. Installing firefox would also be a good move.

There's another important thing you can achieve by using Firefox: with the Adblock extension, you can make it so that your machine never gets certain files at all.

You can go in and block .js files from ad servers. When you have that extension running, you can view all blockable elements on a given page. Windows are opened with javascript...in fact, a great deal of malware is totally dependent on javascript. However, simply blocking js is not the right solution. You want js to do things like navigation menus, etc. You just want to block the js that is meant only to serve you ads, etc.
