IT geek help needed

Post by DallasFanatic »

After I log into my machine at work I get a risk alert from symantec saying i have Purityscan risk. The filenis wuauclt.exe. Anyone know a way I can get rid of this thing? I have already booted in safe mode and run symantec. It finds the wuauclt file and it says it deletes it. However when I restart my computer I get the same risk warning when I log on. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

The wuauclt file is located in my WINNT/system32/??mbols

I guess this is a virus, or is this the proper location for this file?

It sounds like a virus to me because when the warning shows up on my computer it shuts down Internet Explorer if its open

Hold your nose, close your eyes, turn around three times, click your heels together twice and say "There's no place like Steve Jobs".

Your computer will turn into an iMac and you'll never have any problems again.

Mine is in windows/system32

I'm running XP SP2 with the latest patches and stuff installed.

The modified date on my wuauclt.exe file is 26-May-2005

Doing a Right Click ==== Properties reveals several tabs. In general the size reported is .... 121 KB and 124 Size on Disk.

It has been digitally signed (Digital Signature tab) by Microsoft.

AVG ran recently and did not detect any virii on my machine.

good call, mikey. i work macs and have a pc at home and i can't stand the fucking snobbery out of some apple types. when it comes down to it, both formats are piles of shit. one is just a little more user friendly.

oh, and i almost forgot the obligatory: take this circle jerk to the tech forum.

GREAT Idea. Lord knows we don't want to bog down this forum with needless threads.
