Bet Against the Bookie - Week 11

Post by godzilla2002 »

ALL BETS ARE FOR FUN, NO REAL MONEY IS INVOLVED!!!
For those who don’t know how it works, I’ll try to explain it the best I can. Bookies don’t care what NFL team wins in a particular game. They want 50% of the gamblers money on one team and the other 50% on the other team. Bookies make their money (10%) off the 50% that lose. That’s why the odds line moves up and down before the game is played. (We’ll be at a bit of advantage because our line will not move.)

Example:
Two players bet on the same game but pick opposite of each other. Both players have to bet $110 to win $100. If player A wins he/she gets the $110 back and wins $100 for a total of $210, player B lost the game and loses the entire $110, the bookie paid out $210 but took in $220, therefore the bookie comes out ahead $10
A push is a push and the player gets all of his/her money back, neither the bookie nor the player wins.

You can bet zero to five games, there will be no penalty for not particpating or missing any number of weeks.
To make math easy for me, all bets must be made in any of the following amounts…
$11, $22, $33, $44, $55, $66, $77, $88, $99, $110, $121, $132, $143, $154, $165, $176, $187, $198, $209, $220
You can’t bet over a total of $100 per week unless you have it covered over $1,100 in your account. Right now everyone’s account is at $1,000

($11 to win $10) ($22 – $20) ($33 – $30) ($44 - $40) ($55 - $50) ($66 – 60) ($77 – $70) ($88 - $80) ($99 - $90) ($110 - $100) ($121 - $110) ($132 - $120) ($143 - $130) ($154 - $140) ($165 - $150) ($176 - $160) ($187 - $170) ($198 - $180) ($209 - $190) ($220 - $200)

2 questions, 'zilla.

1. If everyone has a bank account of $0, what are we betting with .... ?

2. We're obviously going to have a bunch of folks with negative bank balances after the first week of play. Then what happens ... ?

Excellent question!

I started typing up how things will work and now realize that it will be easier if we all start off with $1,000 in our accounts. After the Super Bowl is played and the season is over we will subtract the $1,000 from all accounts so we know exactly how much people won or lost.

Bets still can’t total over $100 per week unless your account has it covered over $1,100

We’re headed to Texas to move my parents over the next 5 days, not sure if we will have Internet access. Either way we’re due back in Denver Tuesday afternoon, so I’m sure results will be in no later than Wednesday night. GOOD LUCK to all and thanks for playing!

Could a Mod please lock this down when the first game of the weekend starts! Thanks in advance!

If you're talking about your local bookie, then yes, you may be correct. As far as Vegas goes, you are full of shit. You really think they get by on just the juice? They make billions... and not just on the vigorish.

Vegas gambles all of the time. Sometimes, they set a line to trap the betting public. This much I know, if a line moves 2.5 or more points in a direction during the week, I bet the opposite. It hits about 75% of the time. Anytime a line moves as much, most of the action was placed on one side. And more often than not, it's the losing side. One thing you can always count on is the stupidity of the betting public. It is money.

Most books, Vegas included, have their highest winning percentage on bets that are not straight bets. Your teasers, parlays, etc... are where they literally rake in the profits. The longer the shot, the higher the payout. Many, many idiots want the big payout but don't like the 1-1 odds. So they'll plunk down small to mid-range bets, hoping to hit it big. Most often than not, they lose.

You are welcome.
