CFB Map of the US

Post by montinelevin »

I dunno if this has been posted here before, but I found this in a post over on another board...and it shows how few teams are on the west half of the US compared to the east.

Image

I was shocked to see how many D1 teams are in Ohio and North Carolina.

That's pretty cool. Never realized that Ohio has more D-1 teams than California & Florida.

Yep. They're number one. But, I have to ask... are you counting Duke as a D1 football school?

I want a full sized poster of that map to hang above all my guitar gear in my living room.

That thing is just beautiful.

I think I'll make it a life goal to visit every one of those stadiums, and then cross them off when I'm done.

Michigan State
Michigan
Eastern Michigan
Western Michigan

Damn. Only four down.

So, from that map we can conclude that as a general rule, the areas with the highest populations have the most major universities?

That's crazy.

I may have a new life goal.

Two down, about 80 buhzillion to go.

The only region to buck that trend would be the Coos Bay/Bandon metropolis.

The University of Coos Bay/North Bend has won the D1A Meth Cooking Championship for twelve straight years. Although The University of Estdacada gives them a run for their money.

My less-than-stellar attendence resume includes Autzen and Parker/Reser...since somebody up in here is bound to database this stuff...but I'll bet Jay has those two covered.

And years back, I know I've attended some D3 games and whatnot...but can't for the life of me remember where...I'm guessing they were all in Oregon, though.

Coincedentally, I just saw some D3 stats...Mt Union is outscoring their opponents by an average score of 61.5 to 6.2 so far this season. Sounds like they might repeat...by of course winning the D3 playoffs.

Add Southern Mississippi to those not yet mentioned.

D1A schools that I've seen play:

Air Force, Notre Dame, and Army- in Colorado Springs at the AF Academy
Mizzou, IU, Perdue, MSU- in C-bus
Southern Miss and Tulane while stationed in Gulfport, MS
aTm losing to the Bucks in the Sugar Bowl

FLW, I think everyone is listing what stadiums they have been to for an actual game (right?).

Mine:

Ohio State
Michigan
Wisconsin
Texas
Arizona State (for a Fiesta Bowl as well)
Kentucky
Northern Illinois
Outback Bowl - Tampa

As far as getting all of these covered, I'm pretty sure JON's been to Indiana.

SMU
BYU
Clemson
Minnesota (Metrodome)
Cotton bowl
UNT (not for football)

I know some people at both U of U and Utah State so I plan on taking in games in both locations.

Driven by Buffalo's stadium about a bazillion times, but I've never gone to a game (college, that is).

Montinelevin-
You got a link for that map? Very cool. Like Van, I wouldn't mind having that on the wall in the basement.

Anyhow, not overly impressive, but here goes....

Miami
Duke
UNC
Auburn
Alabama
Tennessee
Louisville
Ohio St.
Michigan
Notre Dame
Purdue
Indiana
Ole Miss
Texas
SMU
TCU
Baylor
Oklahoma
Tulsa
Colorado
Oregon

Best college football experience? Easy....OLE MISS! (also gets top billing for hottest girls)
Best stadium? Ohio State
Worst stadium? Baylor
Most overrated venue? Michigan (felt like a sardine in there)
Great scene but lousy stadium? Louisville
Loudest? Orange Bowl (Miami vs. Notre Dame 1989)

Washington State
Washington (saw the Seaslugs play there)
Cal
Fresno State
Utah
Wyoming (man, that bitch is HIGH)

I guess I must just be easily impressed then.

Felix wrote: Oregon State (a fun place to tailgate)

My resume is obviously nowhere near as impressive as most any here, but Corvallis is kind of a hoot, not for the quality of stadium(it blows ass, although I haven't been since the upgrade last year), but it's notable for the absolutely deplorable behavior from the fans, mostly the students.

It's gotten even worse as of late, and even the university higher-ups, and even the top boosters are talking about doing something about it. These morons spit on opposing players(and even their own players, on an occasion), and will throw any heavy object they can find. I heard a firsthand account of Beaverstudents assaulting a ~90 year old Ducksfan after a Civil War game...wtf?

The alcohol ban isn't enforced at t(he)o(ther)OSU. Sure, you can't buy beer at the stadium, but they let the students smuggle anything they want inside. I mean sure, I love a rowdy crowd, but they're not "rowdy," they're disrespectful idiots. And the violence is really really lame. Such a stark contrast to their neighbors to the south.

But, pregame, Corvallis is a serious party. Just don't wear the opponents gear, and you'll be fine. And whtever you do, make sure you're not wearing anything green and gold anywhere near the city on gameday.

Sounds a lot like Morgantown. When those inbreeds get worked up, there isn't a opposing fan or non-flame resistant couch that is safe.
