Bullshit. The Orioles had nothing better at shortstop or 3rd base while Ripken was in town. Even dinged up, Ripken was a better option than all but a few of his contemporaries as a fielder and he was the best power hitting SS in AL history until some guy named A-Rod came on the scene.Bizzarofelice wrote:Cal Ripken. The Most Overrated legend has to be Jackie Robinson. Only b/c he was the first black to play the game should he get recognition. His stats were nice, but compare them to Joe Morgan, Ryne Sandberg or Jeff Kent and they arent close. If he was a white guy named Dick Leyland, he wouldnt even be in the HOF.

Ya need more than luck and a caustic attitude towards an occasional day off to get into the 3000/400 club. As a shortsop no less, before it became sexy for shortsops to be power hitters. If the guy had taken the occasional day off, his #s probably would have been even better, especially career batting average.

Are you on dope? On what other team in your world of dementia would you be speaking of? A career .315 hitter on pace to equal or surpass most of Ripken's power numbers would not be a veritable unknown anywhere.
