Tom Brady roast on Netflix

Post by smackaholic »

Watched it last night.

Pretty fucking brutal.

Basically a few hours of busting on Giselle leaving him.

This morning I see he appeared on one of the news programs saying, uh, yeah, that was a bad idea!

Has anyone watched it?

I saw it a week or so ago. As you said, brutal.

And hilarious at times.

But the gay shit was way over the top. Constant gay stuff. So bad that Kevin Hart finally said, “What’s with you white guys and the gay shit?!”

The Aaron Hernandez references were cringe worthy.

I feel like nothing should be off limits to joke about, but they pushed things about as far as you can.

Started watching it but bailed after Jeff Ross, who's usually $$ at celebrity roasts. Kevin Hart is simply not funny, and while JR dropped a couple of decent blasts, it just seemed like an excuse for 5th graders to say fuck & shit (and gay) repeatedly. Didn't figure it'd get much better over the next 2.5 hrs, so I jumped ship. Didn't seem like there was anyone worth sticking around to hear swear and drop homo-smack.
When I die, I want my ashes pressed into a record album. That is my vinyl request.

The older I get, the more I respect "clean" comics. You have to be really smart and talented to be TRULY funny without dropping too many F bombs. Too many comics use "blue" humor as a crutch. I hate to say that because Robert Schimmel was one of my favorite comics in my 20s and he was as blue as it gets. I actaully met Robert once and read his book. He loved Kalamazoo. RIP Robert.

IMHO working "blue" is just being lazy. I had no problem with coming up with clean humor for my comedy traffic school classes that the students seemed to like.

I felt the same when Howard Stern went to SXM. All he does is say fukk a lot. Unlistenable.

This.

Perfectly described, Smackie. You missed absolutely nothing by bailing early. I assumed someone would eventually pull it out of the childishness, but it never happened. I actually felt sorry for Bill Belichik. He looked somewhat uncomfortable. Any decent person would have been. Edelman was disgustingly juvenile.

I agree about Kevin Hart. I found myself begging him to STFU. I’ve never heard him say anything funny his entire career, and as he got drunker, his uninteresting rambling grew progressively tougher to endure.

Huge goof on Brady’s part to agree to the roast. His image took a major hit, I’m sure. Did you catch his comment to Ross? After JR did a joke about Robert Kraft’s massage parlor bust, Brady got up and tried to quietly say don’t say that shit again. But the mics caught it.

Two of the funniest comics around today are Nate Bargatze and Brian Regan (although Regan’s last special was disappointing). Neither of those guys curse in their act.

An occasional shit, or even a smartly used fuck, is fine. But most comics now drop f-bombs every other word. It gets old and it loses any effect they hoped for.

I'm certainly no Puritan, so foul language is fine (I've been known to excessively use it myself) as long as it's employed judiciously and with some context. As an example, maybe the funniest line I've heard during a celebrity roast was issued by Jeff Ross when Jerry Stiller was being roasted. Sandra Bernhard had just wrapped up her time at the podium, during which she sang a parody of Heart's Magic Man. Wasn't very funny, and SB isn't a terribly attractive woman. Jeff Ross followed her, and as is customary, he took a few swipes at some of the attendees before roasting Stiller. One of his first blasts was "I wouldn't fuck Sandra Bernhard with Bea Arthur's dick." The camera homed in on Bea, who clearly wasn't amused, which made it even funnier. Great use of fuck and dick without either being a crutch.

Most cringeworthy bit was probably Kim Kardashian.

If I was her I’d stay well clear of any roasts.

Brady’s “slow white bronco on the 405” bit about Peyton was good.

Richard Pryor, one of the funniest comedians ever (IMHO) could get “blue” sometimes but didn’t need to. And he could get down and dirty without the language. George Carlin’s seven words you can’t say on TV was one of the funniest bits.

If a comedian's delivery and/or material is not good, his raunchy act will soon become boring.

Regan is hands down on the Mt Rushmore of comics.

Listen to his "Emergency Room" bit.

The best. First stand-up comedy show I ever saw live. He did a USO show at the radar site where I was stationed in the Philippines. Was pretty much a teetotaler, too.

RACK the Foster Brooks resets!

Stayed at the MGM Grand for a week back in 1990-something. In one part of the casino, right next to a bar, they had an animatronic Foster Brooks figure. Over the course of the week, I spent many hours parked near the damn thing as it played Foster Brooks audio 24/7. He was a king.

I saw Cheech and Chong at a small theater in ‘72 or ‘73. The combination of some dirt weed and a half pint of Southern Comfort with their humor had me just about rolling in the aisle.

Poor forethought. Shoulda rolled before the show.
