Office Alternative

Post by Shlomart Ben Yisrael »

Here's a full office software suite that's free and open source:

http://www.libreoffice.org/

Time to get off the Microsoft pipe. It's full-featured and compatible with most word document formats. It's also free.

For the mobile space, I prefer Kingsoft...

I have Office and LibreOffice installed on my Surface PRO 3. Frankly with O365, I think MS has nailed it fairly well. I do agree that for word, the other solutions work as well for the majority of the requirements. Some of the other products in the suites don't come close to working as well as the office equivalent when I've tried them in the past though.

What do you guys think about Excel alternatives?

Believe it or not, I've mostly been able to avoid Excel all these many years, but now my duties include filling in spreadsheets. I have Office (2003, I seem to remember), but if something else is easier, or more compatible with newer Office versions, I'm all ears.

You are truly one of the worst pieces of shit to ever post on this board. Start giving up your paycheck for reparations now and then you can shut the fuck up about your racist blasts.

Open Office, Libre Office, and even web based alternatives are all fine and dandy. It is mainly a matter of taking the time to learn the nuances of each product. I have tried to use them all in a pinch, but usually get frustrated because I don't know their way of doing calculations, formulas and other things. Once you learn the way they work, it should probably be able to handle 80-90% of what Excel and office do.

You could get the shitty ipadpro, or get the MS Surface 3 or the cheaper I3 based Surface 3 Pro. The surface is awesome for students since its tablet size/weight and easy to carry around, even with the huge books kids have to carry these days.

Costco was selling them for a decent price, Keyboard and with O365 included for a year.
