Daytona 500 countdown and pick 'em game thread

Post by War Wagon »

Edit: Make your picks in this thread.

Btw, this will be the 10th anniversary of Dale Earnhardt getting himself killed on the last lap, final turn of the 2001 Daytona 500. That still makes me sad and angry. I've never really gotten over it. He was the main reason I started following NASCAR and it's not been the same since. I suppose there will be lots of tributes to him leading up to this race. Nobody could work the draft like the #3 did. They say he could see the air.

Here's hoping for a victory by the #43 this year! Been posting here since '99 and still haven't had 'bode for a single race thanks to Kyle and AJ. This is the year....or maybe I should just be happy with the Super Bowl.....

I never watched a single NASCAR race more than 5 minutes, and only out of respect because I was probably visiting someone's house, until last year. My son got into NASCAR because his daycare giver's boys are into it. He started off with little cars. Then he liked the highlights on sportscenter. Then he wanted to watch the races.

I still don't enjoy watching NASCAR per se, but I enjoy watching him watch it. He gets so excited. He knows damn near every racer, what number their car is and the main sponsor of the car. For a 5 year old, that ain't bad and he started this all when he was 4. I ended up watching about 40 races last year in their entirety including the Nationwide races and I took him to the Brickyard 400. While I don't know a lot about NASCAR cars/strategy, I know enough to make picks. I definitely know more about NASCAR than I ever wanted to.

Go #48 (my boy's favorite....that #48 Fathead was a bitch to put up in his room)

yeah, thanks for that Jsc... I really needed to relive that again.

But since you fucking did and of course I watched it again for the millionth time...

all I have to say at this time is what a class act Darrel Waltrip was and is, Kenny Schrader was... and what an utter piece of shit Sterling Marlin will be until burns in hell.

Not really blaming Marlin, it looked like a pretty tame wreck compared to some I'd seen him walk away from. The fact it took his death to really start getting serious about driver safety restraints will be the lasting legacy of the #3.

Some really good racing going on at the newly paved track today. What a finish Stewart just barely nosing out Bowyer. Never seen two cars be able to hook up like they're doing. Should be pretty intense tomorrow.

btw, changing my team. Swapping the 88 for 14.

Everyone is picking the same 3 drivers. I think I'll sit this year out.

But Vegas in 2 weeks! I'm getting excited.

A simple plotting of the drivers on a spreadsheet says you're full of shit. 8 contestants have chosen a total of 11 different drivers so far.
