Ochiro vs Charlie Hustle

Post by smackaholic »

Does Ochi deserve the major league his title? He just passed rose IF you include his Jap ML hit numbers.

I guess the question is do the leagues compare? Some point out how American players who couldn't hack it in "The Show" went across the pond and became stars.

What do you fukks think? Is the Jap league basically like AAA or AA ball?

Regardless, Ochiro goes down as one of the alltime greats. If he played his entire career here, he almost certainly is over 4K hits and he might have caught Pete, something that no one else is even remotely close to. If you do a bit of math and assume mlb career average hit totals for another 7 years, he would be somewhere around 4300.

Does anyone know if Ochi has any plans to hang it up soon? Dude is 42 but plays like he is 32. He is just a part timer, but is batting around 350. I could see him having another 3-4 hundred hits in him if he gets the playing time.

Ochiro is the name you use when you are an extremely casual fan that just saw some bit on ESPN when he was still half asleep this morning. Thank you, goobs for pointing out this horrific inaccuracy.

To those of you out there that are wondering WTF I am blabbering about, his name is Ichiro Kawasaki or some shit like that.

That said, Ichiro is a helluva hitter and will be in the Hall.
Sam, I think they should come up with a hit exchange rate. Maybe make a jap hit be something like .638 MLB hits. maybe the board engineer smartypants, mikey, can come up with some sort of equation to calculate it.

I've been following Ichiro since he first came over. Quite an amazing ball player and as pure a hitter as there has ever been, right up there with the likes of a Rod Carew. I care not in comparing him to Pete Rose.
His career #'s in MLB speak for themself. He's been a pleasure to watch and a class act all the way. Not only that, but he paved the way for other Japanese and now Korean ballers to show their talents on the big stage.

Every last word of what you say is true. He is a first ballot HOFer in anyone's honest opinion. The question is, is a jap league hit, equivalent to a MLB hit. You can argue it both ways. Rose is correct when he points to guys that didn't make it in MLB but became stars in jap ball. My guess is that had he started in MLB at 19 he likely would be giving Pete a serious run and very possibly beat him.

That being said, Rose remains the MLB all time hit leader.
