Indeed.

WHO declares highest alert over monkeypox

The monkeypox outbreak has been declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organization.
The classification is the highest alert that the WHO can issue and follows a worldwide upsurge in cases. It
came at the end of the second meeting of the WHO's emergency committee on the virus. More than 16,000
cases have now been reported from 75 countries, said WHO director general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus...

Testing and confirmed cases will now accelerate.

Interesting days ahead, folks.

Monkeypox case count in the USA started 10 weeks ago:

Last 9 Monday’s combined: 452 cases

This Monday: 596 cases

Let that sink in.

This could’ve been avoided.

And widespread testing is not even taking place, yet.

Monkeypox may not be limited to gay, bisexual men, can spread to others: WHO

According to Dr. Catherine Smallwood, senior emergency officer at the WHO, there is little evidence to suggest that the disease will remain confined to gay and bisexual communities, NBC reported.

More severe cases could become apparent if the virus spreads to more immunologically vulnerable groups like young children, pregnant women and the immunocompromised.

It is not uncommon for a virus outbreak to start in one particular group or setting before spreading more widely in the general population, Smallwood said, noting that health authorities could take cues from the early findings.

"This really might be the canary in the coal mine that's alerting us to a new disease threat that could spread to other groups," she continued...

Please provide an “official” source defining a “technical” recession and provide some insight about what it actually implies. If you have any idea.

You do realize that the quarterly GDP comprises a lot of factors, but still doesn’t necessarily reflect the entire economy. Don’t you? What about the record low unemployment rate? When the Fed starts raising interest rates to counter inflation a natural effect is a slowdown in the economy. So which way do you want it- lower inflation or more growth?

Probably the biggest factor affecting today’s GDP number is the slowdown in the housing market, which was way overheated. So is this a good thing or a bad thing? Or do you even care, as long as you can claim another phony “doom” indicator.

Some of you people are like fucking three-year-olds. You don't like what's going on - interest rates are too low!! economy is out of control!!! inflation!!!!!

Then when steps are taken to mitigate this you complain the the economy is slowing down. GDP down by 9/1000 in Q2!! Oh no!!!! Go cry to your fucking mommy if you can't handle it.

I swear, Softball Bat probably has the highest combination of "thinks he's REALLY smart" plus "has his head WAAAY up his ass" of anybody I've encountered on the interwebs. I myself am probably in second place, but orders of magnitude below the GOAT.

Technical Recession is a term that has been used for a long time.

Two straight quarters of negative growth has marked a technical recession, Mikey.

It is just a term.

You can balk at it if you want to, but I think you protest too much.

A white flag if I've ever seen one.

So show me where it's clearly defined. All I can find is "commonly used criteria" and "what some say."

If you're going to throw this shit around you should probably educate yourself on what the fuck you're talking about.
The history of recessions in the United States shows that they are a natural, though painful, part of the business cycle. The National Bureau of Economic Research determines when a recession starts and ends.1

The Bureau of Economic Analysis measures the gross domestic product (GDP) that defines recessions.2 The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports on the unemployment rate.3 Unemployment often peaks after a recession ends because it is a lagging economic indicator.4 Most employers wait until they are sure the economy is back on its feet again before hiring permanent employees.5
https://www.thebalance.com/what-is-a-recession-3306019
DEFINITION
A recession is a significant decline in economic activity, lasting more than a few months. There's a drop in the following five economic indicators: real gross domestic product, income, employment, manufacturing, and retail sales.

A recession is a decline in an economy that is significant enough to affect employment, manufacturing, retail sales, gross domestic product, and consumer income. The drops are monitored by economists, and a recession is only declared by the National Bureau of Economic Research's Business Cycle Dating Committee after a recession has ended.
If you have the equation, I'd like to see it.

If you don't mind, please also explain how it means DOOM

In the past 40 years there have been five significant recessions, all of which were much worse than anything we're seeing now.

1980-82
1990-91
2001
2008-09
2020

If they all meant DOOM then why are we still around?

I didn't claim that it is clearly defined.

As you've pointed out, there are a lot of factors to consider with economics.

What I have seen in my lifetime is that when two quarters of negative GDP are experienced, it has been labeled a recession.

Nobody has really thrown a fit about the term until now, with the Brandon Administration.

So I guess a “technical recession” is not the same thing as an actual recession. But just as bad, if not worse.

San Francisco declares state of emergency over monkeypox

San Francisco officials declared a state of emergency Thursday in response to the growing
spread of monkeypox cases across the city.

The declaration will allow Mayor London Breed and other city officials to marshal resources
and personnel to confront the intensifying monkeypox outbreak. As of Wednesday, the city
reported that 261 people had confirmed or probable monkeypox infections. Health officials
said they anticipate that figure will only grow in the coming days and weeks.

This is true, but...

On Saturday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams and the city's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
commissioner, Ashwin Vasan, declared monkeypox a public health emergency.

About 150,000 New Yorkers are currently at risk of exposure in the city, which officials are calling
the "epicenter of the outbreak."

Though health officials have repeatedly stressed that the virus can affect anyone who has close contact
with people who have monkeypox.
Those with weakened immune systems, pregnant people and children
under the age of 8 may be at heightened risk for severe outcomes, according to the CDC.

https://abcnews.go.com/Health/york-gove ... d=87660203

Read what I put in bold print there.

The good mayor says only 150,000 folks are currently at risk in NYC, and yet we are told that the virus could
hit ANYONE who has close contact with someone who has the pox.
And the outward body sores can come later in a person's infection, so the virus can easily be spread unknowingly, which it obviously is.

Not good.
