15 Bob Welch - "Sentimental Lady"

More overly sweet Yacht Rock. A genre that has been described as "endlessly banal, melodic and inoffensive, fit to be piped into Macy's changing rooms" which is some pretty good smack.

The term “Yacht Rock” is like “wokeness.” A vaguely (at best) defined term glommed onto by certain people as a derogatory description to categorize something they don’t like.

Yacht Rock didn’t even exist until 20 years after it ceased being produced.

It is nothing like wokeness. You made that up.

Some YR is ok, this was overly sweet which is why I labeled it as such. The last sentence was something I found on line and thought was pretty funny. It, of course, does not describe all of the music of that genre, no matter the label.

Yeah, I saw that quote in Wikipedia. You certainly did your research. Whoever came up with the catchy description certainly intended it to describe the entire "genre."

So, what did I "make up?" I made an observation based on how the two terms are used. So what, exactly, was made up?

Personally, I try to resist lumping music into broad categories...like Yacht Rock. I don't think there's even a broad agreement on who belongs there. This list is just about every performer from the mid-70s until 1990, which is why I said it's vaguely defined..

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_y ... ck_artists

I could certainly do without Robbie Dupree, Firefall, Christopher Cross, George Michael and a lot of the others. Some on that list are jazz artists (George Duke, Al Jarreau, George Benson, etc, etc.). Steely Dan, often cited as a prime example, was one of the most innovated "bands" of the era, IMO. Stevie Wonder is "yacht soul?" Give me a break. A large portion of that list has absolutely nothing in common, besides that they made music during that era.

Re: Radio -

Wokeness isn’t like YR. That’s the part you made up. That it’s an apt analogy, because it isn’t.
Obviously all attempts to label anything break down at some point and yeah that list is a good example of that.

While my eyes were still misting from the smoke from a distance dumpster fire, you dropped something from the most “hit or miss” band ever. And you decided to pick a miss. Better luck next time you play them.

10 yrs for recurrents. Two for heavy rotation.

Seriously, I generally try not to play the same version of a song for a year since it's last been played, but there's nothing hard & fast about it.

PROGRAMMING NOTE:The problem that precluded last week's show from airing appears to have been fixed, and assuming it stays that way, there will be a MAKE-UP POP-UP show tonight to atone for last week's failure to launch. 8 Eastern/5 Pacific, and the plan is also for Saturday's show to air at its usualm time.
