Dan Hicks - “How Can I Miss You When You Won’t Go Away”

Oh wait you didn’t play that either. I’m suddenly not very good at this anymore.

I’ll have to say that the live version of Freebird is about the most excruciating 13 minutes in all of recorded music. One cheap guitar lick repeated six or seven times, followed by another lick repeated six or seven times, ad infinitum, until your brain just sort of locks up.

Maybe it’s just because I’m not a Southern Man. ;-)

Nice to see someone picking up the slack for my criticisms, which, as I noted, have fallen off a cliff.

I dunno...the SD area seems pretty far south to me. :0013:

The live version of FB was a pretty big deal when it was released and got oversaturated airplay on SoCal FM radio. Kinda dug it back then but admit it hasn't aged well. As I mentioned, last night was the first time I've played it in TT and will likely be the last. Mainly used it as a cute way to solicit requests but the time it took up, in hindsight, meant the cuteness was overpriced.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t mind hearing it, I’m just being critical. Your shows are great and you’ve introduced me to a lot of stuff that I’ve never heard before. But I don’t expect to love everything I hear. That’s one of the great things about music - everyone has their own tastes and opinions and I especially appreciate something I didn’t know about previously. That cut was definitely was big deal “way back when.” I’ve never been a big LS fan though they’ve had some great songs that still sound good. That particular one has grated on me for decades though for its overwrought schlockiness. Maybe I just heard it too many times. 😂 At the time they seemed like a sort of dumbed down version of ABB, who were at the top of my list. On a side note I do have that album in my vinyl collection, and I saw LS play at the San Diego Sports Arena sometime around 74 or 75, opening for the Steve Miller Band. Or maybe Steve Miller was the opening act. Who can remember those kinds of details?

Edit:

It's right between Lovin' Spoonful and Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Nope. Nothing to do with regional affiliation. I haven’t been able to listen to it for decades.

Mikey, might I suggest you toss a couple Lucero LPs in there betwixt the Lovin’ Spoonful and Skynyrd. Tennessee is my favorite. Nobody’s Darlings would slot in there nicely as well.

Sorry I couldn't get into TT last night.

Just have to say that Saturday Night's show which blew up on the launch pad was actually kinda fun.

To those that weren't there, Dan stuck his prosthetic cock into the server.....again. A number of us showed up anyway, fooled into thinking that what was on was a show and not memorex. Fortunately Dan spared chat, obviously to continue data mining, so a number of us hung around and chatted as usual.

I actually recommended to SC that maybe this could be a regular thing. Less work for him and he would have more time for occasionally witty banter as he wouldn't be Maybe call it Classic TT? TT rewind?

Or maybe you could put together a best of TT? I mean lets face it, while all TTs are good, some were gooder. Take the best sections of the best shows.

I would love to hear the show from a few years back that wandered into hiway rest area gay hookups and how 88 rousts Mrs 88 from her slumber. It was at least an hour of pissing myself laughing.

I just realized that replaying a show probably couldn't include replaying chat.

Need to stop posting before my second cup of coffee.

And a pre-emptive fukk you to those that would say I should quit posting after the first cup.

You managed to play a decent ZZ Top song and one of the The Who’s worst in the same hour. That takes mad skills.

You know him? Got the song from you. Mentioned during the show that the title reminds of me of SB's #doom.

18 The Who - "Eminence Front"

Not a horrible song. Not a very good one either. It’s major problem is that’s it on heavy rotation on all the classic rock stations and I expect better from you. And usually you do too.

79 Elton John - "Madman Across the Water"

You had a clean set going till you had to play the densest song from the densest LP of the densest star in music history. And me calling that music is a gift.
