Aha. I’ll have to give it some thought.

And I’ll have to admit that entire album was probably the most quoted in college during my first couple of years.

Especially Dinah Mo, Montana and I Am The Slime.

Actually, going back now and looking at the song list, I’d have to say all of them.

Now, ya see, if I wanted to be a dick (and I'm still debating whether I do - some might argue that ship has sailed; we'll leave it to the historians to sort out), I'd reply with something like, "Oh yeah? Well, I figured of all people, you'd be thrilled with anything from someone named Little Walter." But I won't go there, cuz I'm too classy & stuff.

What I will say is that somewhere, Frank is thanking Walt.

That was a pretty rough patch, your listeners, once again, let you down, but I’m going with Randy VW on this one. This is one of those songs which is usually better as a cover.

This is not so much a case of listener letdown as tactical miscalculations and other factors on my end. After careful consideration, I've decided I WILL bore you with the details.

There were two sets of music you heard me talk about that play into this - one early and one late, comprised of 11 songs. Lots of sequencing options for me. The only given was the first one since its title was how I segued into it. I decided to break the tunes into two sets - one that was hard rocking and one that, well, wasn't. Because the intro song was a rocker, that set was the early one. Typically, I play the mellower stuff earlier in the show, but the chips just didn't fall that way this time. I also thought the quality of the mellow songs and the fact that that they were live versions would compensate for their lack of tempo, and that a mellow set later in the night might be considered a welcome change of pace during an extended show.

I'll defend my decisions but admit there were inherent risks. I could've balanced each of the sets out with a mixture of slow & fast, trying to hide whatever deficiencies any individual song might have brought, but that introduces a flow issue that I chose not to bring into play. There were positives and negatives to whatever direction I chose to take, and I'll live with the results. So I'll agree with you that those songs, in that order, may not have represented the show's apex to a segment of the audience, but there is no problem with any of the individual songs you cited, RvW included.

My vote probably woulda gone to the closer again. I like Tom Waits but that song is a snoozer.

I've come to like this segment of the show. Like you said, someone has to finish last.

Yes the last song was a snoozer which isn’t exactly a bad thing to close a show, but again it Tom Fucking Waits. Not a beach I’m willing to die on.
Thanks for the thought process, one of the things I like about the show is it’s flow. Most stations have no flow or the same flow (like headbangers ball or a reggae station) and live sets are certainly a nice change of pace. That being said, you were basically putting lipstick on a pig at that point. That stretch was long on misplaced nostalgia and not so long (one might even say short) on deep lyrics or sick beats. And it was still better than Zappa farting into a kazoo for 20 goddamn minutes.

I'll get with my request screener & see if maybe we can institute a few reasonable restrictions.

And the best solution to what became the issue last night woulda been to take the songs from what became the 2nd set and sprinkle them throughout the rest of the show with no comment, a simple wink & a nod to the recipient. Hindsight blows sometimes.

An almost flawless show. I was going to go with the Felice Brothers cause someone had to be last and it’s a bit boring but then you went and did this…

72 Grateful Dead - "Black Peter"

Total snoozer, but for the last song of the show that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but then it doesn’t fit your theme of goodbye on the last song, except for the death part as you said, so it’s last this week, twice.

I kinda figured that would be your choice; almost made the prediction before I played it. I’m not a huge Dead guy and generally don’t care for real slow songs but that one works for me. It’s as if they tried to produce a song played at the slowest possible tempo and succeeded.

Black Peter is a slow downer of a song but Hunter’s poetry there is brilliant. Always liked it as a change of pace.

22 Blake Shelton - "Honey Bee"

Missed most of the show but after perusing the play list it seems I was “lucky” enough to hear the worst song of the night. Bland lists of redneck crap does not a good song make. Good thing you can blame it on the wife.

10 Jethro Tull - "Minstrel in the Gallery”

Was going to go with that abortion by The Stones, but at least that has some continuity to it. This is just more random plucking by a very mediocre band.

They definitely have the worst catalog, with JT close behind, but the song you played is just stupid, sophomoric and bland not an actual assault on my ears like that Tull abortion.

Not sure what version Smackie played, but Kierland, PLEASE! Maybe it was a rough sounding live version, but...

What a great tune. Who writes songs about whaling?! Felix and Leslie were brilliant.

Your line: "Sounded like someone was beating a 12yo Jerry Garcia with a rotting Phish." was funny. Hence the emoji I included.

So my defending the songwriting abilities of misters Pappalardi and West is what prompted your "irony" response. Jesus, man. I thought in this forum you'd be able to simply have a conversation about music without becoming adversarial.

You must be a miserable sumbitch to hang around.
