I'm pretty sure a minimum salary was in every proposal put forth by either side. And the notion of every team being guaranteed to break even is a stupid one. That's where I think Bettman and the league failed themselves. They're looking for the perfect system that will sustain all teams indefinitely...

The Hitmen are ten games above 500, so they must be doing something right. It sucks for them, that they're in a tough division The Hitmen are extremely talented. At the start of the season, they were ranked top 5 in the country. I haven't had a good look at the standings, but I doubt they're top 5 ...

When the Hitmen were established, the ownership group consisted of Theoren Fleury, Joe Sakic, the Hitman himself, and probably other less-famous individuals. They weren't making money, as they were playing some games in the old Corral, and the Stampede Board was asking a lot to have them play in the...

Well, I've been to several Hitmen games this year, and while it might be that the Hitmen squad has a few primma donnas on it, but those guys certainly DO NOT work their asses off. I've seen more effort in pickup shinny. And the ironic thing is, any profits the Hitmen make go directly to the Calgary ...

2 teams(Bos, NY) over the luxury tax limit doesn't seem that bad. That's only because MLB's luxury tax system is an absolute joke. I disagree. The players are certainly much poorer, but by this time they really don't have as much to gain by caving in. If the season were cancelled the majority of th...

It was only a matter of if, not when. I'm just glad it looks like they might get this done before the cancellation of the season. On the other hand, I'm at the point where I'd be nearly as relieved to just see them cancel it and put their other foot in the grave. It's been said that a lot of players...

Whether or not Sean Avery is or was generally an idiot is unknown to me. But those comments were idiotic... ignorant as you say. Hence my assessment: idiot.Blitzkrieg wrote:I've met Sean Avery, he's not an idiot. He's not genius either. At worst I'd call him a loudmouth punk, at best I'd call him passionionate.

Some responses to your thoughts, Blitz... If, for example, the Lightning sign Martin St. Louis to a $30M/year contract, any player who's ever done anything similar to Martin St. Louis is held to that pay rate after that. Sure the Lightning can afford it, they gave it to him. But nobody else in the l...

And only a fool would take the owners at their word. Revenues? Bwahahaha... just what they decide to report or would an independent auditor decide what the revenues actually are, and not some fucking idiot that was paid by Bettteman and friends to conjur up numbers that made their case. In the owne...

I like the idea of absolute revenue sharing. It creates a league that operates as one entity trying to operate as a successful business in all markets. But since there are 30 owners/ownership groups all looking out for themselves, it would be difficult to convince them that this is the best way to g...

Heh... the NHL refused to negotiate??? The NHL has presented 4 different proposals to the union. Never once has the union negotiated on those proposals. They've simply said no and walked out of the room. The NHLPA made ONE proposal, and the NHL took it home for nearly a week to actually study it bef...

Re: More random thoughts about the lockout
Heh.. I took my daughter to her first NHL game when she was about 3 or 4. She spent the whole game scanning the arena for Harvey the Hound and screamed, "THERE HE IS!!" every time she spotted him. Dad spent the night trying to impress upon the little one how evil the Canucks were and how g...

Anyone find it ironic that players, u know, union players are taking players jobs in UHL, and the UHL has a salary cap! ?? Yep, I do. Those guys should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. In fact, I notice Shoalzie's sig has Draper, Chelios and Hatcher sporting their UHL jerseys. Are you proud of ...

That link is so yesterday's news! Since that owner let loose with his tidbit of info, the sides had an 11 hour meeting yesterday, and are meeting as I type this. There have been reports that the union is willing to accept some of what the NHL is feeding them. Perhaps a little optimistic, but I think...

I have two Flames seats. Because of the long playoff run, I was paying for playoff tickets well into the summer, along with the usual monthly installments for this season. Long story short, I'm not exactly sure how much money I've paid towards this season, but I'd guess that it's just over 50% of th...

A $42 million salary cap is waaaay too low of a figure. The number sould be around $50 million and a $38 million dollar minimum. Um, yeah. How could the minimum be $38M when the league average is about that now, and most teams, and the league as a whole, are still losing money? How does that get th...

What pisses me off the most is that this strike is all due to the stupidity of the NHLPA and their members. They have to know that they WILL LOSE this. Almost all of the NHL owners have NHL franchises as a playtoy, and are billionaires from other businesses. In other words they are realiant on inco...

1. Get rid of ties. Overtime is five players aside and you play until you win. Let's see how many teams settle for a point then, specially if one of the teams is on or about to go on a long road trip. The losing team gets nadda. Getting a point for an overtime loss is as stupid as the 'rouge' in th...

The discussion that I've heard indicates that there won't be a draft as long as the players are locked out. And the chances are that there will be some sort of season between now and whenever the next draft will be. No way they resolve this thing after any season would be over and before a scheduled...

Re: Should another team be able to win the cup this year?
When Lord Stanley donated the cup, he said that it must be presented each year to the best amateur team in Canada. Well that kinda went out the window a while ago, now didn't it? Nope... we can't be giving the Cup to some other team in another league. If we do, then what's to stop them from claimin...
