I have a question for anyone thinking about changing rules to the game: what is your reason? Here are my answers based on the changes I want to see: 1 - Player serving full penalty time - As a means to encourage more scoring it should also serve as a deterrent for guys to take what would be conside...

That Jack At Augusta special was top notch. I almost forgot that run he put on in 1998 on the final day.

And still, not a single reference to Jack's Ryder Cup record. 17-8-3 While I enjoy watching the Ryder Cup, the majors and a few other tournaments are the ones I look forward to watching. My earliest memories of watching golf was the 1986 Masters. Have been fortunate enough to see a few U.S. Opens (...

Picture this, for the sake of scenario, Vancouver vs Toronto, game 7 Stanley Cup final...I guess they'd have your one period of overtime....then the shootout. That would be a heart attack. DiMarco was solid. It would have been quite easy to pack it in after Woods' birdie on 16. I doubt he thought he would be losing a shot after they both teed off. He was so close to holing in on 18 himself. That would have been a serious comeback if there ever was one.

No doubt he probably had to, but he also did the right thing by informing one of the rules officials about it since he couldn't very well tap down every spike mark for the next 17 holes without someone noticing it. Fair enough. They only had to play 7 holes, but I am sure every green was like that....

Wet track, so using the metal spikes is a better option. I doubt Phil was the only one wearing them.

Vijay could have fixed the marks with his putter, as basically all of us do whenever we play.

1 - Player serves full penalty time regardless of how many goals are scored 2 - No touch offsides 3 - Eliminate red line for 2 line passes 4 - Abolish instigator penalty 5- Make diameter of posts smaller - Bowman is a big advocate for this and I am surprised it hasn't gotten more run. This one maybe...

Re: 8 mm metal spikes?

RACK Vijay for getting in Phil's head! No way does Vijay deserve a rack. He could have waited until the round was over and said something to Phil. Secondly, if he saw the left over spike marks, he could have patted them down. Mickelson is a player who certainly has etiquette, so if he says he misse...

The could make the exemption for past champions a 25 year exemption or something along those lines.

I like Bsmack's idea of a little mini tournament for the older players.

The bottom line is that f they basically forced Arnie out for this type of play, then they shouldn't have had Casper back.

Why do they still let the old timers play Augusta?

Billy Casper's score on the Par 3 16th Hole - 14!!!!!

They basically forced Arnie out, so it's time to drop the hammer on Casper and the other old timers who haven't done squat in 25 years.

I agree with you on that. It's like the same thing during playoff hockey where the refs don't make calls with 5 minutes left in a game, or in OT.

I totally see where you are coming from Lefty. I have always liked watching team who press/trap. While there is certainly a risk involved giving up easy baskets if a team breaks it, there are also many opportunities to create turnovers that lead to easy buckets.

Everyone seems to be happy with going to overtime in that game, but if a foul occured (which most seem to agree one did) and the official doesn't call it because of the time of the game, I have a problem with it. Yet another reason why I have repeatedly turned down officiating basketball. I am sure...

Teams with depth can utilize the full court press/trap more efficiently than those who rely on a core of 7 or 8 players.

Good article in last week's SI about the press and why we haven't seen it as much over the last handful of years.

As for the replays of the contact I didn't think that the contact was all that great from the side view. However, when they showed the view from the basket it is quite clear that there was both body contact and arm contact. While I agree there was contact, Sparks certainly leaned into it, same as h...
