Oscar Awards 2024 - Jokey is a fag edition

The Oscar Nominations for 2024 have just been released. Jokey was always on top of this thing at .net but he's either deaded, retired, or trolling as yore mom so I guess it's up to me.

What are your thoughts on Hollywood's self-fellatio? I don't put much importance on what The Academy thinks about anything so much as a ham sandwich, let alone what good storytelling looks like. They're more impressed by "pushing boundaries" than they are with plot, character arc, and conflict resolution, but whatever. It's kind of fun to see what Tinsel Town thinks about itself. A few of my thoughts:

1. Netflix hate needs to end. I was reading Entertainment Weekly's summary of Oscar snubs and almost all of their confusions were Netflix releases.

2. Killers of the Flower Moon was a liquid shit into an artsy diaper but the Academy seems to love it.

3. Da'Vine Joy Randolph should win supporting actress for her work in in Holdovers. She is one of those actors who could hold my attention while she reads the phone book.

4. Anything Oppenheimer should go home empty handed. Could have been a great story but Nolan turned it into a film school art project.

5. The Creator got legit nominations for sound and also for effects. The director's use of practical effects was deftly handled and a refreshing change from CGI-everything.

6. Godzirrah Minus One got screwed with only one nomination(Effects), but that's not surprising. If you didn't make your movie through the Hollywood studios closed loop system, you don't get invited to the Hollywood studios closed loop party. See also: Netflix

7. Marvel Studios, which flooded the small and big screen again this year, gets only one nomination. Good. Fuck that overblown cinematic shitterverse.

We watched Killers several weeks ago and couldn’t make it through the entire film.

We watched The Holdovers last night. First time for Mrs Mikey, second for me. Agree 100% with your take on Da’Vine Joy Randolph. In fact all of the cast was great. It was nice to see a film that tells a good story, with great characters, without any need for CGI or gun violence or any of that stuff.

Last night we also watched Anatomy of a Fall. Well deserving of its five nominations. I thought that the kid deserves some recognition as well.

I thought Oppenheimer was good but not great.

Made it through Barbie on the second try. I got the point but really don’t get all the hoopla. Anything with Will Farrell in gets an automatic one point deduction. JMO.

My problem is that, getting on in years, I have a tendency to fall asleep in front of the TV if I’m bored by whatever I’m watching. I think I probably made it through the first two hours but that’s barely halfway. I’ll probably finish it up one of these days.

Yes, they use viagra for lower urinary tract symptoms as well as pulmonary hypertension.

That may be true, but I would think that those would be more like beneficial side effects for someone with ED. Urotraxal and Alfuzosin are a lot more commonly prescribed specifically for BPH. I would think that anyone with no ED problems would probably be better off with one of those. Same for hypertension. There are plenty of treatments that work well for high blood pressure without giving you a 24 hour hard on.

A month or two ago, I think I mentioned a friend of mine who was dealing with major medical issues, an aortic aneurysm among other things. He had surgery and then spent the next month in a coma or semi coma.

At one point they had to give him viagra to help him breathe. Dude got an IV of viagra! When he finally woke up, we told him that they gave him viagra and he didn't believe it, not until a nurse confirmed it.

Of course we had to have fun with him, saying it was a good thing that he was already in the hospital because he got one of those 4 hour elections, and then the nurses all had to come in and see because they had never seen anything like that before (the guy is around 6'8" so presumably he's hung like a horse).

Anyway, yes, there are other uses for viagra. And my friend is doing better, now in a rehab hospital and making progress
