I am tire kicking at the moment.

Worth the $?
If you could buy used for $600 would you, or stick with new?

If you are planning to do the on-line thing, streaming classes, coaches, porn, then the subscription $ will come into play. $600 seems a good deal. You know. Cheaper than the Ibanez TIm Henson acoustic I just snuck into the house. :waz:

Else there are a lot of used pedal machines out there. Your bbq contacts might also know the used market.

That reminds me to ask:

Are there any BBQ's out there with wifi connectivity? I know there are bluetooth thermometers, but how about a unit so I could start it on the way home from the bar, or work.

I have a TacX trainer and I mount my Cannondale to it for winter training. The TacX synchs to courses, has nice ride videos, competes in real time with other riders, etc. It works better than a Peleton for me because my sit bones are conditioned for the Cannondale's saddle, pedal height, aero position, etc. If you don't ride outdoors at all the Peleton is probably a great idea. It's a terrific workout. If you do ride outdoors you might consider mounting your regular rider to a stand.

edit - right after the pandemic you could get a lightly used Peleton for a pocket full of mumbles. Seems like everyone bought one when the gyms were closed and then dumped them when everything opened up again. Not sure where the market is at now but my guess is deals and steals are still available.

Why do you guys need all those bells whistles just to get a workout? I’ve been using a Concept 2 Model C ergometer (rower) for about 25 years. I get feedback like strokes per minute, elapsed time, speed, resistance, calories, heart rate, etc. It’s monumentally boring. For a while I used to watch sports on TV but now I just have my iPhone, Airpods and Prime Music, and that keeps me occupied just fine.

The rower cost me $900 new in 1996. I’ve spent maybe a couple hundred since then on an upgraded monitor, and replacement footpads, seat, chain and flywheel cover. And no subscription fees or whatever. They have an website where you can automatically keep track of all your workouts and compare to everyone else. And it’s about the best workout you can possibly get.

You all must be part of the video game generation or something.

I love the rower that is at the gym. I do not need one at home.
I like to ride everyday, even if it is only a few miles to stretch before
heading to the gym. I quit riding long distance outdoors as it wrecked
havoc on my shitty allergy resistance and it just does not work with my
schedule. My old magnetic resistance bike has now developed a mind
of its own and needs to go. My wife likes all of the pep talk and
bells and whistles that the Peleton has, but it does look like there
are many others do as well. Why does everything have to be so fucking
complicated?
Grifter, who was the dude that used to flip the tractor tires? I need that
work out. Basic, simple and no need for wi-fi.

Jim? In Philly, if I recall.

Speaking of simple... I bought some sand bags about a year ago and they are my favorite weight trainers. I love the instability of them. Forces good core discipline. Or put all your friends in a wagon.

Most of the better pellet grills have wifi. A few gravity feed charcoal
grills do as well and both allow you to monitor and control temps
remotely. However, I do not know of any that would allow you to
actually turn on and preheat without physically being present.
There are a few gassers that have wifi for monitoring only.
