Local Syracuse radio guy Red Parton doing Syracuse Chiefs games and when they were on the road taking cues off a sports ticker with a loop of crowd noise.
Jim Rome when he was new and fresh.
Adam Schein when he was at WHEN AM Syracuse-- doing local sports.
Phil "Scooter" Rizzuto doing Yankees games back in the day.
Johnny Most calling Boston Celtics games on radio when I was in college at the U of Maine.
Jim McKechnie calling Syracuse Nats NBA games of WNDR AM0 Syrause NY.

John Maddon being lionised is just weird. His constant homo-erotic similes were passed off as quaint, to any thinking person they were.. uncomfortable.
Cris Collinsworth should be shot.

Charles Barkley - I waffled between a lot of names for #5 on my list, and I settled on Chuck. Because he's fun, and he says things that others won't say.
Bud Collins - Bud was the colorful, quirky, energetic voice of tennis back in the day. Smart, articulate, and a character!
Bob Costas - A jack-of-all-trades. A great interviewer. A treasure trove of information, and can speak intelligently on a wide range of subjects, sports and otherwise. Very polished and professional.
Bill King - The voice of the Raiduhs (and Athletics) back in the glory days. Great memories. Good times!
Al Michaels - Has always been my favorite NFL play-by-play guy. Just excellent!

1-Maden BOOM!!!!! Do I really need to say more? Ahhh fukk it, I will anyway. Dude knew the game inside and out. He is arguably the best head coach in history, based on his win/loss percentage. And he was so damn authentic in the booth. The loud jolly big who was having a blast doing what he loved. Recently saw the bio TV show done about him and everyone they talked to said the same thing. JM was an even better person than he was a coach/tv guy. Kinda made me feel a little guilty of the hateful shit I wished on him as a 12 year old Steelers fan.

2-Vin Scully - There are more entertaining play by play baseball announcer, but there are none better. I suspect that God wishes he had Vin's voice.

3- Howard- Yeah, he was an asshole know it all loudmouth NY jewboy. The kind of person people hate, but he did it soooooo well. And he was pretty fukking fearless. And he and Dandy Don getting smashed during MNF was one of the greatest moments in broadcast history.

4. Ai Michaels - Iconic voice of pretty much every sport there is for most of our lives. He could announce any sport equally well.

5. Johnny Most - BIRD STEALS THE BALL!!!!!!!!! I don't know how many cigarettes it took to give him that awesome voice, but I'm glad he smoked them.

Back when coaches were burning heaters on the sideline.

Awesome!

I loved the Raiders, and Madden, but I don't think the case for him as the GOAT is real strong.

His coaching career was quite short -- 10 seasons.

But yes, his regular season record was spectacular.
103-32-7

Led the Raiders to 6 AFC Title Games in 10 season, but unfortunately only won one of them.
John's playoff record was only 9-7.
Of course the Raiders had the misfortune of often having to go up against a historically great team -- the Steelers.

John Madden's Raider teams were LOADED with talent.
Hall of Fame players all over the place.
Of course John deserves credit for some of the greatness of those players, but a lot of the credit for the Raiders' success in those years goes to Al Davis, who truly was a great owner once-upon-a time.
Al assembled the talent.

Madden: Boy, I guess his jockstrap is big and sweaty at this point.

Summerall: Yep. Big and sweaty.

Madden: Bet they can't wait to get their hands on a turkey leg.

Summerall: Yep. A turkey leg.

They would do that for four fu*king hours, man.

I know it's blasphemy to say this, but I think Madden was overrated, as a coach and broadcaster.

He appealed to folks that didn't get the game of football, so I guess that was a strength.

Yeah I figured I'd ruffle a few feathers with that one. All of my buddies disagreed with me as well.

I really liked him as a personality, and he was a fine coach, I just thought he should've had more SB's with that squad, like Noll.

Madden was a player's coach and Noll definitely wasn't, nor was Shula.

Back then, coaches seemed to get the maximum out of their players by being hard asses.

Who would be your pick to play Madden in a movie?

Mine would be John Candy, but he’s not taking roles these days.

I’ll bet John Goodman would do a good job.

Just put Frank Caliendo in makeup. His impression of Madden is 2nd to none.

When a long time fatty gets thin, that’s the first thing that comes to mind.
