What's the backstory? Why would cutting through that specific girder on the roof cause the entire building to collapse?

When it was cut it caused the roof to shift out of place and put overwhelming pressure on the other girders.

Snap, snap, snap...

Then "Derron" is scrambling for his life!

Not looking good.

One of the besy videos I have seen lately.

 Fuck.... there is a human being. Couldn't tell on cell phone until you pointed it out. He did the Bruce Willis off that roof. I hope he's okay.

Probably made load calculations on the cuts without factoring in the weight of snow on the roof - that's a fluid number. Or it wasn't communicated to the demolition men. Smaller scale events like the Big O, same problem. That could be hundreds/thousands of tons at least, looked like small icebergs all over the top combined with uncleaned rubble.

By way of of trivia, it was formerly known as the V. I. Lenin Sport & Concert Complex.

After the collapse and the Arduous Journey, it played host to Billy Joel, Roger Waters and J-Lo. Shame Neil Peart wasn't there.

The guy in the basket probably sent the other hapless schlep out there to do the task.

He's like, "Oh yeah, you got this. Piece of cake. No problem!"
