The Bad Old Days

1950's England might as well have been Hoxa's Albania for the ramshackle state it was in. One would have felt like they were walking into a Soviet Block state run hospital just having to deal with the NHS...and I would rather take my chances with the Commie hospitals...

Think of the humane and generous treatment captured U.S. soldiers received in N. Korea and North Vietnam.
You were given clear and scientific examples of the greatness of a socialist society. Yet paradoxically, you've rejected it.

Yet, The Beatles survived.

And the first thing their management did after they broke was spend a few quid getting their rotting British chicklets fixed.

Won't be long before this thread turns into another EAP blog.

Why would any intelligent successful person want to live under government control?

That time period had to be the suck. They were still reeling from the exhaustion of 2 terrible wars, plus they had an imploding empire.

And if that wasn't enough, they socialized everything so the 60-70s were even worse.

100% correct sir.
Why do you think dirty hippie commie John Lennon moved here? Albeit he left his beautiful first wife Cynthia for a very hairy Yoko, but he didn't want to give all his hard earned money to merry old England.

Same thing with swedish tennis GOD Bjorn Borg, who left Sweden due to suffocating taxes.

Why would any logical person want to give away 90% of their money? Or even 60%?

Reasonable people can agree that 35% is the highest the government should ever take.
Period.
