However, in terms of universal income, $1000 a month is carrying-around cash for middle class and up. The question is, if social security is soon to go bust, where do they expect to find billions of dollars lying around to throw at people? I'm certain that if this idea were to gain traction, the first order of business would be to means test the recipients. Then it'd just be one more entitlement for a particular class of people, negating the whole "universal" aspect of it.
