I just came across this forecast for Madison, WI, Wednesday, Jan 30, 2019.
High -14/low -29, wind chill -64.

It's amazing... people still live in these shitholes with the invention of the internet.

By the way... I'm posting at 10:39 PM Pacific time... and it's 60 degrees in San Francisco.

I guess, it really comes down to intellectual genetics.

It's been pumping at Mavericks... San Francisco Bay Area... this winter

And the trees are green in the winter... in the San Francisco Bay Area

It's how we roll... when you're intellectually superior too... ah, fuck it. You know who you are.

Psst... San Francisco doesn't have trailer parks.

But SF does have tent cities. Lots of them.

The current air temperature (the only one really measurable with a super accurate digital thermometer) at the Fallout Shelter here in southwest Florida is a cool and crispy 43ºF. Should be up around 65ºF by afternoon. Best part is no snow or ice.

The forecast for today is partly cloudy with a high of 71 and low of 51.

Yesterday was a little warmer in the day and a little cooler at night because there were no clouds.

Supposed to get some rain on Thursday, and then Saturday through Monday, which is a good thing. The yard is actually green this year.

Cold climates breed a heartier strain of Homo Sapien. Less Homo...more Sapien.

It's difficult for piss-stained tweakers to pass out on the sidewalk when it's 20 below. You'll also get your balls frozen off if you're some deranged tranny traipsing around Thunder Bay in a pair of Daisy Dukes.

California always struck me as that place where historically, people would run when trying to hide something about themselves. Somewhere very far away, where you can completely reinvent yourself.

It's only 13° degrees Farenheit. Works out to -11° Celsius for our friends across the lake. Nobody is freaking out about the weather here except for school superintendents who are closing schools left and right because they don't want to see kids walking in near 0°F weather with a slight breeze.

Fucking pussies. I walked to school in -10° F and it didn't hurt me. Get some winter gear already.

... and ?

Of course, there's around 500 years of European history in California, so there is that.

Hell, the Russians have been here for hundreds of years.

There's a reason there's a neighborhood in San Francisco... called "Russian Hill".

Yet, Russians NEVER lived there.

I visited S.F. years ago...and the wealth disparity I observed was fucking disgusting.

That a town with such overt opulence and garish pretension can weave itself with utter squalor is quite damning to the "progressive class" that stakes out an urbane lifestyle on top of a substrate of poverty...

...because "slumming it" reminds them of how much better they are in the socioeconomic hierarchy.

It isn’t cold here nor will it be cold in Phoenix where I am headed tomorrow. However we are going from Dallas to Bismarck to Phoenix. I am interested to see the climb out performance tomorrow when the ground temp is -10. Right now that leg is scheduled as an empty on so we can request an aggressive climb. Pax tend to get a bit uncomfortable when you handle the bird like a rocket. The waitress will just have to suck it up and deal.

3500 or so. Anything higher and it gets hard for ATC to keep us in the clear. This could never happen in certain areas, think SoCal, NYC, Dallas, Houston. We could keep that rate to about flight level 400. Would have to dial it down some above that.

We could be to your United flights cruising altitude in about 7 mins or so.

I know this won't help the current posters on the board from the south... but, it could help with their kids sleeping in the same room at night with the doors closed.

Papa Willie wrote: That'd be fun! I always thought it would be cool to accelerate going straight up in an F-15, but I doubt they have ass-sauce containers built into the flight suits, so...

In the mentioned areas, I'd imagine you have to keep it more in line with the others at about 1800-2500 fpm?
Accelerating while going vertical is a good way to burn gas. A couple F-15 guys told me they often tanker after such maneuvers.

As for your basic commercial flight, depending on noise abatement procedures, the initial climb might be 2500 fpm, but then it is going to be closer to 1800-2000. As for the last part of the climb say above flight level 300, they may be climbing at 500 fpm. (Think older A321s with the CFM engines.).

It's about 65 here but it just started raining like a motherfucker. Apparently PCH is closed from Santa Monica through Malibu because of mudslides. Also heard they cleared all of the beaches in LA because of lightning

With all the news lately about the subzero weather and snow that the Midwest and east coast areas are experiencing, we shouldn't forget that Southern California has its share of devastating weather also.

Attached is a photo illustrating the excessive damage caused to a home from a west coast storm that passed through Southern California today. It really makes you cherish what you have, and reminds us not to take life for granted.

Those flights out if John Wayne are always fun, especially when they roll back the thrust a few seconds after take off and you feel liken the plane is falling ass first back to the ground.

Those 1%ers on the water don’t want any airplane noise. So there are aggressive noise abatement procedures in place. You basically have to be above 3,000 ASAP. Most commercial flights will turn off the a/c, IFE, etc to have as much power available as possible for takeoff. When you lift off, you immediately start trading airspeed for altitude. That feeling you mention is often a brief moment of weightlessness as the pilots push the nose down to increase air speed and move away from stalling. Then as the air speed increases they throttle back to a normal climb power setting and you notice the reduction in power and noise which also can be a bit unsettling.
