I might take that bet. If the Duhs get the futuristic domed stadium they're promised in Vegas and they're able to fill seats (and they should), there's no way Oakland would match it, and they sure as hell won't go back to OA County Stadium. It wasn't as tough a decision for them to go back there from LA, since the Coliseum sucked, too. I doubt Oakland would be a desirable city to which any other team would consider relocating. If the Raiders aren't there, it's not an NFL city.

I'm pretty sure for the tab that Las Vegas is picking up the Raiders are going to be under contract for more than 10 years.

FUCK THE NFL

The Chargers playing in a 25K capacity stadium at Dominguez Hills is a Novelty for one year. The Rams were lucky to get that size of a crowd at USC. When the new stadium is in place at Inglewood good luck at filling that place every weekend with the ticket prices they think they will command while the shit for brains front offices of Kronke and Spanos will continue to put forth low budget mediocre products.

Football as we know it has 10 years left. As more information is learned about the head trauma induced, it is a dying sport, literally and figuratively.

Oh, come now, the NFL is in good hands with Roger. Now that he has solved the games big problems, like Football inflation pressure irregularities, little things like Brain Injury and player wife beating will be easily solved. :meds:

I actually do think that a team in Vegas is a good thing simply because Vegas is a city that exists for the sole purpose of entertainment. It may never develope a large local home team following, but they will be able to sell Vegas getaway weekend packages including football tickets. There is the added bonus that the NFL season coincides with tolerable weather in Vegas. Will the stadium have a sunroof? It should.

This will be a great move both for the Raiders and for Las Vegas.

Make no mistake about it, this isn't about drawing fans from Vegas. They may play in Vegas but in reality it's the return of the LA Raiders.

Fuck the fans in Oakland. The Raiders still have a huge fan base in SoCal, and now they'll be about a three hour drive away. Not much longer than it takes to drive from Long Beach to Hollywood on a weekday. Close enough to drive to but far enough so that, if you can afford an NFL ticket, you'll probably want to spend the weekend. Also you can fly round trip from about five different airports in the LA area for less than $200. For Vegas it's all about bringing in as many people from out of town as possible and keeping them there as long as possible. Can you imagine 50,000 to 60,000 drunk and crazy Duh fans descending on Vegas for the weekend?

I'm surprised the Arizona Cardinals voted yes. Somebody must have greased Bidwells palms.

I think Mikey is right, this is the return of the Los Angeles Raiders. When the Raiders are good the star power is just going to draw the celebrities in from LA. Their corporate box sales are going to blow up. The problem is when the Raiders suck, people are not going to want to fly to see them, leaving them in the hands of one of the smallest metropolitan areas to have an NFL team.

It'll be an excuse for fans to go see their team play on an away game, spend some disposable income on hookers and blow, and get away from winter for a weekend.
For the out-of-town guys who don't have season tickets wherever they live, it'll be a chance to see a decent team play for a reasonable price.

I lived in Henderson, NV for five years in the late 90s. Didn't particularly like Vegas and haven't been back there since I left, playing "California" by Joni Mitchell on the car stereo all the way across the desert.

That being said, it's a cool place for a party. We put on my step daughter's wedding there at a large Catholic church. Had a reception, including Elvis, at a nursery with nice grounds that specializes in putting on receptions. After the reception, at about 9:00 p.m., we provided chartered mini-buses to take everybody anywhere they wanted to be dropped off on the strip or downtown. People flew in from all over the country. Everybody had a great time, didn't have to drive drunk, and we were home by 10:00.

I can see the Bills being the next in line and the Super Dome in New Orleans is starting to get pretty old too
The Pagula's are one of the rare NFL owners who bought their team because they love the city they live in. Erie County and New York State would all but have to spit in their face to get the Bills to move now. I fully expect by 2020 to have plans for a stadium for the Bills.

I'm not sure about the engineering but the Bills financially could go a little bit lower in total seat count and bump up the luxury boxes in a big way like Chicago and Green Bay did.

The Pagulas are all in, they've got the Bills and Sabres and a fortune invested in training facilities and the downtown core. I don't think there's an equivalent of long term commitment in sport other than Leicester City FC. Ralph Wilson used to turn everyone's crank with that crap twenty years ago.

Public financing of pro sports facilities is something that annoys the hell out of me. I suppose the laissez faire capitalist in me should say fukk it, no body is holding a gun to their head, let them do it, but this is one area where I wouldn't mind seeing a little bit of heavy handed gubmint meddling. It has gotten so ridiculous, it even extends down to the minor league level. The fukking morons running Hartford pissed money they don't have down this rat hole.

The problem is, how do you stop this sort of pilfering of the tax payer? Constitutional Amendment?

Maybe I should just say fuggit and be satisfied with my bread and circuses.

It would probably have to be a Constitutional amendment. Which will never happen. The United States is for sale to the highest bidder. And we are not they.

That'd be a seriously cool way to celebrate a wedding, Mikey. Nicely done.

From our mouths to Pegula's lips.

"Pegula offered little news on the subject, reminding that he said upon buying the team, he didn't want to be talking about a new stadium for nine years.

"The state just got through with a rather expensive renovation on the stadium. I don't think it's our place to make demands and ask for things now," Pegula said. "We have a lease on our stadium until 2023. We're not talking about stadiums.

"(A new stadium) hasn't been discussed in any detail. We're newer owners. We're a smaller market in the league. We have to be happy with what we have.'"

I hope there's at least one more battle of the bay. And I need the goddamned schedule released so I can work on some Twitter hookups for games so I don't have to go alone.
