Take Ohio State and lay the points

There isn't much that encourages me about this match up. MSU's record and ranking are deceiving. There isn't really ONE thing this team does excellently. Pass defense is a disaster. Special teams are a disaster. Rush defense is just okay. Rush offense is below average. There are only two things this team has been able to hang their hat on this season: turnover margin and passing the ball. Even then, TOs are largely fluky and not something you can rely on game to game. So that leaves the passing game. Connor Cook hurt his shoulder last week against Maryland and looked like noodle arm Peyton Manning until they finally pulled him. He didn't play in the second half. Since the coaching staff is so hush hush about injuries, I have no idea if he'll play, and if he does, if he'll even be effective. Cook can't just be functional against OSU, he will have to be exceptional for them to win.

Beyond all that, it looks like the weather is going to be cold, wet, and windy in Columbus. This usually favors the better rushing team, and it's no secret who that is.

So basically what I'm saying is...

Ohio State 42
MSU 20

Hope I'm wrong.

According to covers.com, OSU is 4-6 ATS and MSU 3-7.

I picked up on that. I'm just saying, if your rationale for picking against OSU is their record ATS, well, it's still better than MSU's.

All that said...I'm still gonna take the Spartans cuz fuck Ohio State.

Yeah, you're wrong.

Shitty weather favors the team with the better short passing game.

Hence the popularity of the Run'n'Shoot in the U&L (and other places that are usually wet during football season).

All that said, I'll take MSU, cuz fuck Ohio State.

At first glance I took MSU +12.5 then for some unexplainable reason changed my mind.

No matter the circumstance or situation, changing my mind seldom works out well for me.

Props Sparty. Nice job on the road.

Brutal fucking game to watch. Uninspired play calling by OSU, three and outs galore, piss poor special teams.

5 first downs by OSU. Poor punt fielding decision by Sparty. Brutal.

Props again though to Sparty to win on the road.

Guys, I was just joking about all that stuff I said. I knew it all along.

The elements eliminated any sort of passing game for either team. MSU won because they controlled the trenches on both sides. But yeah, it was a tough watch if you love points.

That game was torture to watch but State won that game the only way they probably could've won. Thanks for taking the steam out of next week's game, Sparty... :x

I know you're usually slow on the uptake but the smilie indicates sarcasm. BTW props on narrowly escaping that powerhouse Florida Atlantic in OT.

Almost would have preferred losing, almost...exposed.

Your season will be graded on trying to beat a team MSU already beat for second place in the division? Way to set the bar high.

Props to Sparty.
They hit OSU in the mouth early and often. Showed a ton of grit.
The best part of that game was setting Sparty up for the B1G game. I felt Iowa had a shot at beating OSU...MSU, not so much.
I don't take any joy in Iowa winning the B1G. I'd have to hear that shit all off season.
Also, anyone catch Elliott tossing the "O" coaches under the bus post game, and apparently announcing his way out the door..?
I guess his emotions got the best of him.. :meds:
Although, Tim Beck could "fook" up a free beer.

Unless State falls to PSU...the BIG game is nothing more than an undercard. Still want to win it though.

Good to see you 'round, old guy! I know you're happy with the Hawkeyes - as well you should be!
Thanks, Spray. The only thing I miss about this board is the college football forum, so it's good to drop by on occasion, especially when the Hawkeyes are having a good season. It's always interesting to see the varied opinions of the fans. Good to see you're still hanging around.

Good to see some of the old farts are still hanging out here, Sam. Yep, it's been a fun season to be a Hawkeye fan. Not sure just how good they are, but we'll find out in the next few weeks. It's also good to see that theJON isn't around running his mouth about the Hawkeyes and their 85 first rounders. The Tide are having another good season too, but what the hell happened to them against Ole Miss?

Props to Sparty on a great victory, Dantonio is fucking nailz. Buckeye fans can cry all they want about shitty playcalling, uninspired players, etc etc but OSU just got plain beat up front on both sides of the ball.

Hoping to see the MSU-Iowa winner make the playoff, would be fun to watch.

Hope you're doing okay, Sam, and have recovered from your hospital stay. I didn't watch the game either, but not because of being in the hospital.

Our plans for traveling to Lincoln fell through (the guy who was getting the tickets didn't follow through), so we're having a get together at my place to watch the game. Hoping the SI jinx doesn't foil the Hawkeyes on Friday but, win or lose, there will be plenty of cold beer and food to either celebrate or drown my disappointment. On the bright side, the Hawkeyes are guaranteed a game in Indy on December 5.

This will be a great weekend for college football and I'm looking forward to watch tOSU-Michigan on Saturday, along with Oklahoma-OSU, and a host of other games.

Hope you're in good health, Sam, and enjoy the remaining season with the Tide.
