Alrighty then. Now I can go back to picking like Goobs and Mikey next week. I'm guessing next week is going to be Michigan-Michigan St.

Congrats Dins.

AP, I went back and forth on the must pick game but went with Florida vs LSU. Later this season we will likely see Mich or MSU vs OSU as the must pick game and possibly both. On top of that most of the early predictions for Mich v MSU all are in the same general neighborhood of total points scored. The UF v LSU predictions are much different. That hopefully will give us a wide range of guesses on total points scored.

I should have 2 weeks in a row now with 7 correct, still missing the Mizzou game from Week 5.

Goobs has a good point about reversing his picks every week. He would probably be in 1st place as he says. Go with the George Costanza mode.

He'd be tied with me at 31.

Average score after six weeks is 29.1, less than 50%.

^^^ that's why nobody should bet money on point spreads. It's evidence why organized gambling books ultimately win.

I'm listening to Fox Sports Radio right now, and they are saying a lot of Draft Kings employees were betting on their own site until it came out recently. Now apparently they no longer can. They and Fan Duel that are unregulated took in over $43 mil last weekend alone on bets. :meds:

2 things:

First, sportsbooks don't work like our awesome game here. You aren't compelled to pick any certain game, and you aren't compelled to pick 10 games. Apples/oranges.

To your second sentence... uh, no. Books make their money off the juice. They work at what amounts to a 2.5% markup. They set lines not based on the prediction of score, but what it takes to get half the action on both sides of the bet, which guarantees the 2.5% markup, negating the possibility of a loss. That's why lines move through the week, when no other factors related to the actual game have changed.

That said, I still wouldn't recommend sports betting as a long term investment.

And if I understand the Draft Kings/Fan Duel thing, employees were betting on the other site -- betting on their own was strictly forbidden. But they still kindasorta had inside info.

Yeah, I know that. Plus, we don't bet with money. How good of you to point that out. Awe inspiring insight there. Yes, it's fun to do this because it gives you interest in watching games you couldn't care less about. It's just fun to do.

Now that is probably true, and I'm sure you know this as fact as with everything like cliff heights in northern Michigan.

Thanks dins for your response. Very informative.

Yeah, it was only on the national news after all.

hmm... guess some other game was amiss then as you had posted that I had 6 correct not counting the Mizzou game.

No worries.

I must have got his panties in a bunch.

If the words "if I understand" don't convey a lack of certainty, then I... don't need to do anything differently. Someone else needs to go back to reading class.
