REO Speedwagon
Lead guitarist dead at 65.
No more Ridin' the Storm Out... quite the bummer. I had probably seen that band a half dozen times, the last just a few years ago, and they never disappointed.
RIP, Gary.

Good. They sucked. So do you.

This is probably one of their first songs I heard, released in 1976, that made me think that they did not suck.

Re: REO Speedwagon
I am going with Wags here, as Gary Richrath was a very good guitarist and decent songwriter. REO wasn't a top flight rock band by any means, but they were a solid pop rock group and during their height during the 80's, they were a quality live group and Richrath could solidly replicate his studio sound live. I caught them live a couple of times and had a great time doing so.
Combustibles played their part of course, but nevertheless, consider the bands hits and body of work and to say they suck is a matter of biased opinion. A rock band on par with the Stones or Zep...no.
A pop rock band with great hooks, harmonies and memorable melodies, yes.
RIP G. R.

Actually, dude came up in a discussion with my buddies very recently. To a man, we all agreed that he was a horrifically shitty player.

REO was a decidedly midwestern band whom had a devout following from guess where?
The Midwest, where people actually work for a living.

As I've mentioned, I've been working on a project that involves travelling around the country, working at various sites. These jobs require hiring crews of temps.
And the temps at the Midwest stops have been the laziest, good-for-nothing idiots of the bunch... and it's not even a close contest.
Great crew here in Florida. Could have really used them in Missouri.
Another sidenote: The Missourians were by far the rudest, least friendly people we've dealt with on our extensive travels... and that took a serious effort to beat out the New Mexicans.

No, you typed that and the reaction you got in The Show Me was no doubt a reflection of your effervescent snobbery. It fairly oozes from your pores and we can smell that bullshit from a 100 miles away.

Sure, your musical taste and opinion. (for Dins and mvscal)
Of course, as you could be wrong.
Kansas and BTO at least, while not the Stones or Beatles, are legacy bands.
REO and some of the others, have sales and fans that approach legacy status.
Even fucking Toto, which I recognize as studio pablum, have reached that point.
Does it make them or others like them classic rock bands?
No, but it doesn't mean they suck either.

Why is mv even commenting about music?
He obviously wouldn't know what good music was if it grabbed him by both ears and shoved its 10 inch cock down his throat until it gagged him into submit.

Regardless, I reckon it musta been the nice Missourians that settled Oregon.

Legacy bands?
Not sure what you mean there Jay.
They sold a lot of records?
They lasted a long time?
They had a top 10 single?
They still get played on AOR stations?
Is Sugarloaf a legacy band?

Imo, a legacy band is one that still sells out shows (at smaller venues) 30 years after their prime. People, young and old, buy tickets and have a great time.Mikey wrote:Legacy bands?

REO was such a band. I could name many others.

Come on Mikey, you may not agree or like the aforementioned bands, but recognize their popularity and sales and place in popular music history. Who the fuck is Sugarloaf?*
Poor example.

REO was kind of like Styx and a few other legit rock bands from the 70s who decided that 15 year old girls money was as good as "rock fan" dude's money and started pumping out love ballads. And they laughed all the way to the bank.

Re: REO Speedwagon
What ^^^ said. Temp agencies in places with a decent job market are going to be manned primarily by worthless fukks. In other places with a shit job market, you'll find much better talent. I can remember way back in the early 90s when HD first came to Ct. The economy was in the shitter and the job situation in the trades was horrible. You could go to HD and actually get help from people that knew what the fukk they were talking about because it was staffed by out of work tradesmen. Today, you have teenagers, housewives, and absolutely worthless fukks. I go there with absolutely no expectation of assistance beyond maybe where is a particular section.mvscal wrote:Dinsdale wrote: And the temps at the Midwest stops have been the laziest, good-for-nothing idiots of the bunch... and it's not even a close contest.

Hmmmmm.... that's odd. I've had nothing but great experiences with the overwhelming majority along the way, and even made some (possibly) lasting friendships, and generally get thanked profusely for the kind treatment they receive. I'm in a room full of them as I type, having a great time.
