Wow. I had no idea all of this was going on.

Terrible news for SEC non-conference schedules, as well.

Neither Auburn nor Bama would play them.

Same for Troy.

Nothing to gain from it but a meaningless W.

Of course not -- they're FBS.

"The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees oversees UAB and many Blazers supporters believe the board wanted to shut down their football team because of a feud with former athletic Gene Bartow and to eliminate any competition with the Alabama Crimson Tide."

If true...that's fucked up.

Pretty telling piece here: http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootbal ... b-football

Sounds like this all stemmed from a little butt hurt over the UAB athletic director accusing Bear Bryant of cheating, in a letter to the NCAA.

Unfortunately for UAB, Bear Bryant's son sat on the University of Alabama board of trustees which also includes UAB and other satellite campuses. And as we all know, "down there," you can shit on a picture of Jesus before you take a run at their precious head football coach.

And thus, the decades long feud was spawned between the schools, which is why they never played each other, and ultimately led to today's announcement.

Sad and petty.

A year ago, UAB averaged 10,548 fans per game
Damn, Eastern Michigan thinks that's fucked up.

Yea, Bear Jr. sits on the board and HATES UAB. They want to do away with the program citing financial reasons. This pettiness is easy to hide when they have validity to the financial argument. Auburn doesn't mind this either since every 3-5 years they would get possibly a Roddy White, Bama too.

It is true. Not even a secret in this part of the world. I have heard members of Destin Tide Alumni Club openly talk about making UAB shutdown football out of some perceived slight to their program.
