Engineering-wise, the Prius is an absolute marvel.
The only problem with them is the people who buy them.

Re: Prius, Canada-Style
A couple years ago flying into Buffalo NY, the car rental there had a Prius and a Jeep Liberty left. I booked a regular car, but said I'd take a look at the Prius. They began to tell me how to start the car and I said---stop---I want a car that you put a key in a slot and turn it and the car starts. I took the Jeep for the night and returned the next morning to pick up a Camry for the rest of my journey. Sorry but--fuck those things. Also wonder how many pedestrians have been hit, because sometimes you can't hear the damn things coming.
Also---please don't tell me any of you have a lame tag with an oh so cute "saying" on it. UZ LS GS indeed.

Re: Prius, Canada-Style
The thing that makes far more sense to me is the technology that reduces engine output based on driving needs at that moment.
There are times one needs a V-8, but that same V-8 is costing a ton in fuel when sitting at a light or in stop and go traffic. Sitting at a stop light or at highway speed using cruise control no need for all 8 cylinders, shut 6 of them down.

I enjoy the hell out of my Fusion hybrid. It's comfortable, has adequate power, a nice ride and feels very substantial on the road. And getting close to 50 mpg.
Besides that, all I have to do is push one button, say "Grateful Dead", and I'm in aging hippie Nirvana for as long as I'm in the car.

I have never owned a Ford, probably never will. But I test drove a Fusion a while back and that was one solid ride. Wound up buying a Malibu instead because Chevy is how I roll.Mikey wrote:I enjoy the hell out of my Fusion...

The CVT (first brought to the market by Volvo, about 30 years ago) is a farrrrrrrrrrrr superior transmission system, and if available, any other selection pretty much makes you an automotive tard.88 wrote:We would buy a new one, but you cannot get a manual transmission anymore. Last new car I drove (some Nissan wagon thing), you just had to have the key in your pocket, then you could use the ignition switch.KC Scott wrote:

I've got a 2012 Prius... and it's money.
Hit the power button going up the Waldo grade... and it's like a Vette. Serious power !
I also like like the braking option while going down hills in "The City".
Doesn't hurt that I can put $30 bucks in the tank and go 600 miles.
Still don't have any idea what the EV Mode really does... other than cuts off and says I've excelled too quickly.
Anyways, it's my California car.

Well, it would hurt... your credibility, if you had any...
Since your statement is 100%, unadulterated horseshit. Full stop. Don't even try and defend it, just tuck tail and run.
While the Prius is extremely efficient in heavy city traffic (where hybrids shine), it ain't getting 70... unless you're talking the plug-in, then your statement is disingenuous in a different way.

I'm getting 46.2 in "The City".
Anyways, what are you babbling about ?
Oh yeah, nice double post... my canadian friend.
Re: Prius, Canada-Style
600 miles / 46.2MPG = ~13 gallons
$30 / 13 = $2.30 per gallon
Wanna back up and take another run at it, Mathematician?

Wow... you're an anal fuck.
Ok, 550 miles on a tank of gas.
Unreal.
Psst... most of my miles are highway miles... where I get well above 51 mpg.
Must suck living in Greyland for the next 10 months of the year. But, hey... we all make our choices.

I have rented a few. the ignition switch gives you a handy place to store the key. I don't like a bunch of hsit in my pocket while driving, so i put it in the console.
wanna know how many times i had to walk back to the car to get the keys?
approximately, every fukking time!

unless you spend a good bit of time sitting in traffic, a manual tranny ('sup AP?) is still the way to go. rented a focus the other day with the "automated manual". not a bad rig, if you could ignore the horrible shudder at launch, most of the time.

That is a feature for women. No more digging thru a purse and unloading three pounds of crap only to realize the key is in her jacket pocket.

The worst is when you get to the hotel or meeting then can't find the fob in the car
I have gotten to the point where I don't mind it on my personal rigs. Hate it in rentals when they hand you two fobs, their plastic tag with car info and an small plastic ad sleeve. That won't fit in the pocket easily. But at home the fob by itself fits easily in any pocket. Plus with the Lincolns and their key pad on the door, I often lock the keys inside the car anyway and use the code to open the door. The keys almost never leave the drivers side door storage thing.

Re: Prius, Canada-Style
First time I rented a car with keyless ignition was a Genesis this past summer. I took some clients out to lunch and, when we got back to the car, one of them commented how cool the car had stayed. I did park in partial shade but in 90+ degree weather it should have heated up more than that. I never did mention to them that I had forgotten to turn the ignition off and the thing had been idling with the A/C turned on for the past hour.

I rented a car and wondered why I couldn't get the seat to recline. I stupidly posted that here.Papa Willie wrote:Okay, Mgo. Give us the story. I know Screwy ain't sayin' shit...
A week later, I rented another car, ran into the same problem. Then I discovered the reclining lever was further toward the back of the seat.
Happy?

been rolling in a charger sxt the last few days. not a bad rig. it is the v-6. goes like a scalded dog, handles very nice and according to the dash, gets about 31mpg on the highway with the cruise set at 73 mph. and mopar's magic radio's bluetoof connectability beats the shit out of the awful ford stink system

I haven't driven a new Charger but I've recently rented a Challenger, Chrysler Town and Country and 200 with that bluetooth system.smackaholic wrote:been rolling in a charger sxt the last few days. not a bad rig. it is the v-6. goes like a scalded dog, handles very nice and according to the dash, gets about 31mpg on the highway with the cruise set at 73 mph. and mopar's magic radio's bluetoof connectability beats the shit out of the awful ford stink system
Also driven Chevies, Nissan Altimas, and a couple different Fords. The Chrysler voice recognition system is pretty worthless. On all the others, once I've paired my phone, I can say "call home" and it calls home. The Chrysler always either hangs up or tries to call a towing service. Maybe one out of 20 or 30 tries it recognizes the word "home". I wouldn't think it was that uncommon to program one's home phone under the word "home".

spray, for the first time ever, toolio may actually be right about something. I've never driven a prius, but, if i lived in a place life sf, i would seriously consider one. it actually does something with all that potential energy besides turn it to brake dust.
as for the mopar chick in the dash, i suspect like many, she has trouble understanding your backwoods twang. i have used the call home command a number of times and have yet to have it fetch me a tow truck or do anything other than call home.
