St Maarten Bucket List PET

This will be a long one, just be warned.

4 cruise ships full of Jersey Shore types were in port last Tuesday when the 747 arrived. Thankfully 90% left as soon as the 747 landed.

Props to the Insel Air pilots who brought their MD-80s damn near right to the edge of the fence and then went full power while standing on the brakes. Gave the fence hangers exactly what they wanted. Notice most of the right seat guys are waving or taking photos of us. Also a few shots of wing farings on 757s that amazingly look different and darker from one shot to the next despite being only a few feet away.

Couple of bikini photos for yall as well, and a few of gay guys for those that swing that way.

It wraps up with a few of the other shots of the island that don't include planes.

Looks like that could be a pretty tricky airport landing.

I'm not sure St. Maarten would be in my top 500 bucket list places to visit, but I'll rack the PET nonetheless.

PL,

The hardest thing about landing there is keeping your concentration on the landing. If you are in anything other than the largest commercial jets there is plenty of runway. Key is to keep your eyes off the beach and on the touchdown point. Wind is generally within about 10 degrees of being right on the nose.

Mgo,

I get that it isn't for everyone and it isn't the top "beach" island in the area either, see Soggy Dollar on Jost Van Dyke. But it has something that is almost impossible to find for us who really enjoy airplanes.

Been to one Caribbean island, been to them all. I got sun poisoning in cayman last year. Don't need to go back ever.

Wrong.

You have heard of sunscreen correct?

Further, your statement reminds me of a college girl that says I don't drink tequila because it makes me sick? Nevermind the fact she drank a half gallon of the stuff once and was sick for three days. News flash, it wasn't the tequila, the results would have been the same regardless of the choice of liquor.

Horrible PET.

I've never been drunk enough to sit around and watch planes take off or land.

Left seater, I've been to cayman, Jamaica, Bahamas. Do I really need to see another island? They all really look very similar. I can go to a beach here. The sun isn't quite as intense either. No desire to ever go back to a Caribbean island.

It's undoubtedly from spending too much time in the Middle East eyeballing possible muzzie ambush sites while reconning on final to unimproved LZs, but I can't help but cringe thinking of some Obama Akbar-er lighting up the cockpit of one of those heavies with a PKM on short, short final. It always surprised me that the Tallies never figured that out in A-stan instead of always trying to take out Apaches which will shoot back. But RACK the PET.

I've been to a number of islands. Jamaica, Antigua, Curacao, Aruba. St. Maarten is the best.

Image

The island is about 13 square miles. With over 400 restaurants, many of which are outstanding. We went last year for the fourth time, and saw 3 new beaches. Supposedly 37 beaches on the island.

Yeah, those islands are all really similar because they all have sand and salt water.

You not very smart.

Rack the PET. Can't wait till February. Could be a new photo op for Goober.

And I have never been drunk enough to go to a Ren Faire.

Trev I am not trying to convince you to visit one. I just took issue with you saying if you have seen one, you have seen them all. That couldn't be further from the truth. IMO there is a huge difference once you get East of San Juan PR.

Nice.
There's 4 that I'm aware of. 3 of them are fairly small.

Sitting in the sun, on the sand, watching planes come and go...

I can do that up the street from here (not so much this time of year).

But I'll always RACK a PET.

Ahhhh... did I hurt your itty bitty feelings ???

Psst... shit for brains, this thread is about "landing and taking off" from an airport and has nothing to do with Renaissance. It's your thread for god's sake you overweight simpleton !

You are now an honorary member of the Kansas City contingency.

Too funny.

The first time I went there I freaked and wouldn't get off the boat. Took 20 minutes. The second time we also swam over by the sandbar and saw eels and pet a shark. The third time there were three Sharks. So rad.
