Virtual Private Networks

I'm thinking about getting a VPN, mostly so I can get local sports games blacked out on internet streaming packages. Anyone have any experience with this and can make any suggestions?

I don't think a VPN does what you think it does. A regular broadband connection does anything a VPN does, just at a much greater speed and with less security.

A Virtual Private Network is a way of using the internet as.... in layman's terms, a way of using the internet as an Ethernet cable to get into a corporate Local Area Network. You're basically taking the datagrams (aka "packets"), and wrapping them inside other packets that have an encryption key. Not a particularly fast way to send data, but very secure. It's known as "tunneling" -- kinda claiming a tiny part of the internet as your own, kindasorta.

In short, it's for working remotely for a (usually, doesn't have to be)big company, and little else.

Actually, after reading your post about 4 times, I see where you're going -- you want to stream from a site that's outside of the blackout zones (a concept I haven't dealt with in many, many years, since we only have one real sports team (fuck MLS), and every game is on TV). You'd need a source outside of the blackout (probably not too tough to find on the Undernet v2.0), and both sides probably need a hellocious fast connection with the extra layers of the packets.

I have a friend who watches all the UFC fights on pirate sites. I'll ask the name of the site he found that's better (I'll see hhim in the next few days). Sometimes the picture isn't the best, and a lot of those sites are virus/spyware city.

One of the benefits of VPN is location spoofing.

Even a cheap VPN service can do this.

Is this strictly for viewing on a PC? Because, there are easier ways to accomplish what you need.

Thanks for the responses, guys.

Aside from the getting around blackouts part, I know VPNs allow you to connect to other computers remotely (you know, so computer B can login to the VPN and access computer A). Mgo and I have been trying to figure out a way to play Genesis games against each other via Fusion (or any other type of emulator). I am thinking if I set up a VPM via Hamachi, we would be able to do this. What do you guys think?

Marty, I was going to post a Canadian Bode image, but I couldn't find one. Do you have any fresh batches of Canadian Bode?

My guess is that Screwy and Magoo are looking to share gay midget goat porn videos. Or worse.

Like a few keystrokes, if you can find a fast enough proxy server. That's about as basic as location spoofing gets. Most public proxies are pretty slow, though (although I haven't tried one in years).

Is "smack" allowed in this forum?
Why would you care? You got none.

Actually it's not a direct quote, you parsed it from a post of mine. But carry on, half-wit.
