Kind of interesting. Give it a try, it's not too long. Has my first location as Rochester NY (sup Bri?) which is pretty damn close as I am from Syracuse. Some of the answers were not too clear cut for me.
I remember reading that some linguistics guys can do this. Dinsdale probably does this at parties. How did you do?

I answered all the questions, and the system crashed. It said due to high traffic volume but I'm pretty sure it was because they hadn't yet had anybody from the Planet Lovetron.

It said Austin, Fort Worth, or Lubbock. Austin is the winner. Pretty crazy stuff.

SLC & Stockton/Modesto

The latter being the closest, they barely missed it by 432 miles.

Rockford & Aurora, Illinois -- and St. Louis, Missouri.

Accurate, as I grew up in "central" Illinois.

I suspect that folks who have moved a lot may pick up local speech and terms that might skew their results. I lived in central NY for most of my life and it shows. People usually tab me as a New Yorker at least.

second and third were stockton and modesto california.....

I should probably be insulted, but at least they had the general vicinity (Western US) right......

Pretty close. I was born in San Francisco and grew up a few miles south.

Granted but not as much as my results were. I was born in St. Louis and lived there till I was six and spent half of my summers there growing up but, other than that, I have lived my entire adult life in either Texas or California and I get...Denver?

The fuck? I've spent all of two days in Denver to see a football game.

The map shows me as being from southern new england which is spot on. I am from Hartford. There were 2 questions there which I knew would locate me. In southern new england, you eat grinders and go to tag sales. These are both very local terms to the best of my knowledge. I grew up thinking that the entire universe ate grinders.

Where I'm from, you could set up tables to sell your crap in the middle of the street, and it's still a "garage sale," and a "grinder" is a tool for sharpening stuff.

Yes there are terms and sayings that are quite area specific. I remember my first time in Maine when I ordered a chocolate milk shake, you know, the kind with ice cream in it. I got a glass of chocolate milk. Up there I needed to order a frappe. Now if you want one in Rhode Island, you need to order a cabinet. Go figure.

Having lived around the country I have picked up very few local sayings. I think I use more Aussie sayings than New England or Mid Atlantic terms. For example despite living between Providence and Boston, a machine that dispenses water will never be a bubbler, and the wheeled cart that you push around a supermarket will never be a buggy, to me at least.

same here, even if you don't have a garage.

other places I have been seem to use yard sale or garage sale, dependent on whether or not your shit is set up in the garage or yard. Not sure why they don't say driveway sale as that is usually where the shit is. Another one used around here, usually as a church fundraising activity is rummage sale.

Round these parts, we have different terms for that. Today, it's called "Thursday."

1. Rochester
2. Buffalo
3. Boston

Last one is a bit of a head-scratcher, given that I've never lived there before.

I think the quiz should have included a question about pizza, as I've heard them referred to as pies or zas in other places. Also snowmobiles, given the Palin reference to Taaaaaaaaaaaaaadd being a champion "snow machine" racer.
