Actually, this is one of Mikey's better threads. I think it's kinda cute.

How you gonna cook it, Mikey? Poached in pan of boiling Grey Poupon?

Honest...that was the worst destruction of any creature that ever came out of the sea onto the dinnerplate, when you laid out that recipe for fresh sockeye smothered in Grey Poupon. What a waste of good fish.

I've been reminded again recently, more than once, the joy of salmon that was swimming earlier that same day.

Even the next day, it's a shadow of what it was.

But go ahead and keep believing you're not missing out, and that stuff is "fresh," if it makes you feel better.

In Costco's world, "fresh" means it wasn't frozen (I think I'd prefer frozen, if it had to be shipped more than a few miles).

BTW -- that's wild, troll-caught. If you see any sort of farm-raised salmon, of any origin, please don't buy it, regardless of price. The farms have become petri dishes, breeding new viruses/whatnot that are killing off the real fish -- the practice needs to be banned.

Well, us unlucky folks who don't have any wild salmon swimming around our neighborhood will just have to make do.

I may have a chance to sample the real thing, though, when we head up to Victoria for a long weekend in July.

Haven't touched a farmed fish, BTW, in recent memory. The side-by-side pictures I saw a decade or so ago of farmed salmon fed with no food coloring vs. with food coloring would probably convince any sane person not already at 100%.

They do have these things now called "aeroplanes." Amazing machines. You actually can get food from one part of the country to others in less time than your typical wagon train.

We'll see if I can prove my theory once again, since I'm leaving in a dew to catch the salmon in my my buddy's neighborhood across town.

A little off topic but I need your expertise for something quite important DP:

What are your thoughts on hogging and women who have had weight loss surgery? Is it still hogging if the woman is thin with lots of loose skin and scars? TIA

So you're saying wild "troll caught" salmon is farmed fish? Maybe you didn't make your point clear.

I'm not disagreeing with you that fresh caught salmon like you just showed is ideal. We caught those in Adak, Alaska and they were on the grill within 2 hours. I DO agree with you that those farmed salmon should be avoided at any expense.

Well Old Fliend, this is uncharted water for me. Once they have the surgery, they leave my league.

But I'd say... use your judgement. If she's still nasty, albeit with a lower BMI, it seems you could still call it a "hog" and not be inaccurate.

Awesome! I was uncertain but your guidance and wisdom has given me clarity. I can't thank you enough broham.
