Christmas Dinner

Any plans?

I have a 3 bone prime rib roast ordered for Christmas day. Will probably keep the meal pretty simple beyond that - a classic Caesar salad, baked potatoes. I might try doing a Yorkshire pudding, which I haven't done for about 20 years. A nice cab to wash things down and something chocolate for dessert.

Christmas Eve we're going to some Frenchie place with a five course prix fixe menu. Actually, we've been there before and they do a pretty amazing job.

Honeybaked ham
Rolls
scalloped potatoes
yams (sans marshmellows)
stuffing
gravy
pumpkin pie

Love that menu you had. I think you went there last year?

You've got a good memory. It's sort of taking the easy way out but it was very good and...easy.

Doing the classic British Sunday dinner. Roast beef, yorkshire puddings (I'll try not to set the kitchen on fire this year), tatties, a gallon or so of gravy and glazed carrots with schnitzel beans and homemade applesauce. Couple buckets of pinot noir, a cooler of beer and a bottle or two of port to wash it down.

Sis is in charge of desserts.

Smoked turkey breast brined with a lemon pepper mix and whatever else we scrounge up.

No. I'm looking at the bone in pork loin for Easter, though. Or possibly lamb I don't know yet.

Sounds great, but too healthy.

This year I'm smoking a bone-in ham injected with Tony Chachere's Praline Honey Marinade as well as a turkey breast.

Wifey will bake egg custard, lemon, and pecan pies.

Deviled eggs, cornbread dressing, green bean casserole, possibly asparagus with sauce...

Doing Christmas Eve dinner at Vincent's again. That will make it three years in a row, so I guess it qualifies now as a family tradition.

Christmas day I'll be doing a prime rib roast again. Probably three bones but there are only three of us this year so that will leave plenty of leftovers. Side dishes haven't been established yet.

It's a little too soon for Mace jokes, don't you think?
I mean, his body isn't even cold yet...

Soar with the mutton, old prince...

Muttons don't soar.

For me, first time in 42 years I'll be alone for Christmas day. Nothing earth-shattering... just family dynamics and circumstances this year. I'll make sure I've got my favorite vodka, firewood on the front porch, and some good music at the ready.

Thinking about making veal piccata. Relatively easy to make, but one of my favorites. Who knows, I may just bail out and make myself some eggs benedict.

That's what the lounge at the Chinese restaurant is for.

Scott, I would have thought you'd be wedging a sausage in between two hams for Christmas...
