Old Man Strength

Post by Q, West Coast Style »

So I'm in my mid-30's now and I've started to notice the onset of "old man strength." I was removing some old carpet from a house I just bought and I realized that there was no way I would've hauled off the carpet with such ease in my 20's, even during the time that I was consistently lifting weights.

Any other "old man strength" stories from my T1B peeps?

You're not an old man at age 35. Just thought you should know.

Real "old man strength" lasts about two seconds and then you throw out your back.

Sounds like really bad aftershave, or a good name for an album. Also, my grandad cracked me in the ear once.

My grandfather was tossing 70 lb bales of hay the day before he died. He was 72. What's your problem Q?

Wait until you're 50. I cut an old dead walnut down this weekend. I'm sore, but up a cord of prime wood!

strength probably reaches it's peak somewhere around your current age, which, as you've already been told, ain't old. everything else will start going down hill soon. the first thing to go is recuperative power. try ripping up that carpet in 10 years. you'll get it done but will ache for a week.

Men reach their peak in physical prouess between 30-35. But a man can continue to improve mentally until around 50. After that time it's mostly about trying to maintain what you have to the best degree. Both physical and mental exercise is the key. And finding mental and physical exercises that you enjoy makes it more likely that you can maintain well.
