About to leave in a few. I like the new album, it is better than what I expected. I saw them once in Kalamazoo in 05 in a small club so I know what to expect. They are playing sold out shows tonight and Wednesday. Mgo saw these guys in Milwaukee and said it was good shit.

I'd give up a testicle to hear the last six Twin Cinema songs played tonight. That would be some mind-blowing shit.

Of course, it was epic. My favorite "new" song of the night was Execution Day. Great track. It's Always Divine Right was also more than awesome.

Combined with Carl Newman's classic voice and his epic indie rock songwriting, the NPs have one of the most distinct sounds in modern alternative rock. And they just kick major ass. All 50 people on stage have a perfectly scripted role. And I especially like how they have usually three people singing lines at all times. They are truly a collaborative effort, and are all honest indie superstars in their own right, even if it is Newman's project.

Who is the chick playing keyboards? Neko doesn't play keyboard. Canada just has some epic fucking alternative rock coming from there. I really want to see the Arcade Fire at Merriweather.

Guilty indie pleasure, that's on the radio a bunch these days...

Haunting. The rest of their stuff is pretty uninspired, but I'll give the Portland guy some love, and appreciate one Broken Bells tune.

I gave that album a few honest listens, but can't get down.

I miss the REAL Shins.

Every time I drive my truck, which is pretty freaking frequently.

It's on sports most of the time, though.

When I worked for the Redskins we used to listen to either DC 101 (shitty FM rock) or WPGC (shitty rap/r&B) regularly. It was literally insufferable. You can only hear that one Flobots song five times a day before you go insane.

this made me laugh. not because i have any idea what it is like to work for the Redskins, or PR America.....but, i know what programmatic insufferable is like. Classic Rock or Hip hop garbage. fucking today's America--two demographics.

NPs are skipping PGH this time around, I might have to step onto the road for a show...maybe Columbus.

The other girl is Kathryn Calder. She's Newman's niece. She was in a few bands before, and for a while she was just filling in for Neko on shows she couldn't make, but now she's a full-time member of the NPs. She also has a solo effort that has released just this week. I'm going to pick it up tonight on Amazon MP3s...the previews sound very good. Neko can be a bit much sometimes...ubiquitous. I am starting to like Calder's voice a bit more.

Classic rock insufferability is way more tolerable than "hot rock" or "top r&b." But it is still insufferable nonetheless.

I think you're completely crazy on that point, but to each his own. Calder's voice, while nice, is a little dainty and one-note. It's also a voice I've heard a million times. Neko's is completely unique, and demonstrates a wider range. Her ability to really belt it out is also better suited for the power pop stylings of classic NP songs like The Laws Have Changed, Letters From An Occupant, and Mass Romantic. But...Calder is just fine, and I'm interested in hearing her solo stuff.
