The rumored terms: 12 years for $72 million (cap hit: $6 million per year)

It's going to be announced at a presser this afternoon. In a cruel twist of fate, he had to leave the game last night with back spasms.

His contract would take him to 40 years old...no guarantee that he'll last the length of the deal. In terms of dollars, it's a steal considering many expected he could have got $7 or $8 million on the open market. It now makes re-signing Hossa a possibility if they opt to keep him instead of Franzen. Datsyuk is already a bargain at $6.7 million for being arguably the best two-way center in the league. It's ambitious to sign him for this long but the cap number is the most important thing.

The Penguins have $21.4 million tied up long term in Crosby, Malkin and Staal. The Wings could have Datsyuk and Zetterberg locked up for $12.7 million and if they can sign Hossa for $7 or $7.5 million...they could have that trio signed for a few million less than the Pittsburgh trio.

There is a conflicting report on TSN saying it's a 10 year deal for around $7 million a year. I'm sure the terms will be announced this afternoon after the press conference.
