1st Half Awards / 2nd Half Predictions

Post by Shoalzie »

1st Half Awards
Hart: Alexander Ovechkin

After a slow start, he's been the glue for the one of the best teams in the East. Amidst shaky goaltending and Semin and a few others being out of the lineup, they've built a healthy lead in the Southeast.

Norris: Dan Boyle

He's been one of the most important additions to any team this season and is one of the big reasons the Sharks sit on top of the Western Conference.

Vezina: Tim Thomas

The guy flat out wins and always gives his team a chance to win whenever he's in the net. He's got a great team in front of him but deserves a lot of the credit for the Bruins having the best record in the NHL along with the Sharks at the All-Star break.

Jack Adams: Brent Sutter

It would be easy to just say McLellan or Julien is the best coach in the first half because they have the best records but Sutter has done well in keeping that team afloat without Brodeur. The Devils are a darkhorse cup contender when they get him back in March.

Calder: Steve Mason

There are a few forwards that had a strong first half (Ryan, Versteeg, Berglund, Wheeler) but no rookie has been more important to his team than Mason. With Leclaire likely out for the rest of the season, he's got to help keep the low scoring Blue Jackets in the playoff race in the West.

Selke: Pavel Datsyuk

Obvious bias aside, I'm seeing more and more why he won the award last year. He's emerging as the best two-way center in the league. He's got tremendous offensive skill but he's just so smart on the defensive end and he can matchup with any top line in the league.
