Michigan/Utah Preview

Post by M Club »

how da fuck do we posta fight utes?

nick sheridan can only throw seven yards downfield, so two of his three interceptions will be returned for touchdowns, but since michigan plays ninja football now we will win by 112 points.

i typed this entire post with just my right hand since i've gnawed off my left arm because FOOTBALL ARRRRRRR MICHIGAN WIN AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH KILL KILL KILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL EAT THINGS YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO EAT RUN RUN RUN [or somersault if you're mcguffie] ARRRRRRRRRRR

and fuck ohio state.

I think Brian Cook at Mgoblog summed this up well:

If the d holds Utah under 20 UM wins. Either way I'm excited to see the new system.

Not necessarily. Utah could score on defense and I don't see how Michigan will score more than 14 points unless Utah just hands them touchdowns.

I know that maybe 1% of all offenses with Michigan's experience don't completely make a fool of themselves their first game. So I'll say there's maybe a 99% chance they don't perform too well.

I'll give a prediction....

Michigan offense in total yards < 250
Michigan offense sacks allowed > 3
Michigan defense in total yards allowed > 375

I am going to make a guarantee....

The ONLY way Michigan wins is if Utah goes turnover crazy. They're going to get dominated in this game. Though, in college football, domination does not always mean victory. Turnovers/special teams can play a huge part.

No they aren't. My predictions AGAINST THE SPREAD are. My picks straight up are anything but terrible. In fact, they're very good. I just can't get one of the teams I've picked against the spread to cover. Straight up, I'll whoop you into tomorrow with predictions. Shit, I'd even let you pick the games and I might even be willing to spot you a few point lead. You want nothing to do with me in predicting winners. Now, predicting winners against the spread......maybe not. I went 42-65 or something like that in my Pick 6 league last year (which was 44th out of 45), but I'd whoop any of those peeps straight up and they know it.

The fact you're bragging to me about picking straight up winners in CFB tells me all I need to know about your "skills." CFB is fairly easy to predict straight up -- upsets are few and far between. Now, pro sports...that's another matter.

Remind me before the bowl games start and I'll take you up on your challenge.

Since when is betting against the spread a "skill"? Nobody wins at that shit. Vegas owns almost everyone that even attempts to make money off that. Pretty much everyone goes 50% in the long-run......which means Vegas wins. Maybe 1 out of 4,000 people that bet on games actually make profit. And if someone tells you they win at the sportsbook, they're lying or they can't count.

I've not been more nervous, curious and excited about one football game in quite a long time. I just don't know exactly what we're going to see on Saturday.

I think the defense will be the strength of this team in the early going of the season because of the returning talent. The kicking game should be solid as well. On offense, it's a complete flip of the coin as to what to expect. I think we'll some exciting and new plays that us MichiganFans won't be accustomed to seeing but we'll probably also see some plays that look like it's a team learning under fire.

The QB position worries me the most considering RichRod can't settle on just one guy. When a team has multiple options at QB, that usually means they don't have one they can feel comfortable with. There's going to be some trial and error done on the field and some of it could be rough to watch.

A win in RichRod's debut would be great but I'm more concerned about this team getting better throughout the season and I won't take early losses too hard if it means there is progress on the horizon.

Sheridan is awful...I don't know what Norrie was seeing to say he looks poised. He can't throw the ball down field and the only play this offense has made was on a short field after a fumbled punt return. Take away the plays on the special teams and this would be a total rout. This was a terrible first half for Michigan. Utah looks like an experienced spread offensive team while Michigan definitely is showing their newness to this offense. I hope Threatt gets some snaps in the second half because there's nothing out of Sheridan that impressed me at all. Seeing Pryor score a touchdown in the scarlet and gray this afternoon and watching the crappy play of Sheridan is a bad initial sign to this season. Even the defense has looked soft and slow. Where is that the great conditioning I've been hearing about all summer? Gotta make a complete turnaround in the second half or this is going to end up being an embarrassing debut for RichRod.

Anyone who knows UM football knew it was going to be a tough year.

What dissapoints me is the defense. How can they give up these easy completions over and over? It reminds me of last years opener as far a defense goes.

I knew the offense would be brutal, but I expected the qb's to be able to get the speedy guys the ball in space...kinda like Utah is.

i thought Michigans defense would set the tone.

you knew the offense would have growing pains, but man, the defense is being shredded.

we will have to rack jon on this one, he called it, and called it big. i guess the sun shining on a dogs ass ,fits jons pick of Utah.

Is it me, or does McGuffie look lost on where to lineup on each play? My niece said he was dumber than a box of rocks, so I'm not sure if DickRod's system might have something to do with the preplay confusion.

That was absolutely a perfect throw and catch. Coverage was there, but execution on the pass was perfect.

Only 1 guy on the o-line with any game experience.

This is where the Barwis effect may make the difference. Late game conditioning.

Credit to Threatt for providing a spark and for the defense in buttoning down in the second half but the big story has been all the awful penalties by the Utes. Utah is imploding more than Michigan is rallying back. They've let them back into this game. Big possession coming up...need to at least use some clock if they can't put up points. Michigan is carrying plenty of momentum right now.

It's not the worst loss I've seen out of a Michigan team. This loss is forgiveable given the circumstances with a new coach, system and lots of new players. The defense needs to play well the full 60 minutes and the offense will be a work in progress. This isn't a shocking result but certainly the first half was eye-opening at how bad this team could be. Hopefully they learn from this first game and put up a better effort against Miami. They have Notre Dame in two weeks and they're definitely in no position to overlook the Redhawks.
