'Bout fucking time...

Good riddance to King. and his penchant for bloated contracts to role and bench players and for waiting too long to trade Iverson. Sixers are still 3 years away from competing but it's a good first step.

Stefanski has some nice credentials.. hope it pays off.
76ers introduce Ed Stefanski as new president and GM

Showing both confidence and a passion for the city and his new team, Ed Stefanski was introduced today as president and general manager of the 76ers.
Most recently the general manger of the New Jersey Nets, Stefanski replaced Billy King as both president and general manager of the Sixers.

"I feel more than ready to be the caretaker for the 76ers," Stefanski said during a press conference at the Wachovia Center.

Stefanski is proud of his Philadelphia area roots. A graduate of Monsignor Bonner and the University of Pennsylvania, Stefanski maintained a residence in Delaware County even while working for the Nets.

"I'm a Philly guy through and through, and I die with every Philadelphia team," Stefanski said.

Stefanski became the 11th general manger of the Sixers. He said he has taken the job with an open mind. When asked about the status of coach Maurice Cheeks, who is in the final year of his contract, Stefanski replied, "I am evaluating top to bottom. I will talk to everyone and make evaluations as I go forward."

The Sixers are 5-12, and interest in the team has dwindled, with King being the lightning rod for criticism. Stefanski, known as a great talent evaluator is expected to breath some needed life into the franchise.

Sixers chairman Ed Snider and Peter Luukko, the president of Comcast-Spectacor, the owner of the team, met with Stefanski over the weekend.

"This was a guy who was too good for us to pass up," Snider said. "It was not an easy decision because Billy King was a good friend and did a good job."

Sixerfan has got to be feeling better today. The PC Police were KILLING their team.

That team has been horribly mismanaged for years. If it wasn't for Meverson being a one-man-wrecking-crew, that team would have wallowed in heinousness for years.

I feel your joy, Sixerfan. We've weeded out some bad apples in these parts, too. While the journey ahead is a long one for you, it's just like every other journey -- it begins with the forst step. The Sixers just took a huge one in the right direction.

Man, apart from Iguodala, who rocks, that roster is pretty brutal. If nothing else, having new blood working the draft should help.

Jim, are any of those prospects any good, in your opinion? There's Iguodala, and Andre "The Oldest 31 Year Old On The Planet" Miller... and what? Korver seems OK, but other that that, where is that roster going besides the lottery hopper? Time to get your stud signed long-term(if he isn't already), and get him the pieces he needs... assuming you want to hitch your wagon to Iguodala.

Iggy can't carry a team by himself b/c his perimeter shooting is spotty at best so he can't be called on to be a clutch player BUT I think he can be good with a better supporting cast.

Miller has looked decent and like Iggy, would look even better with more weapons. He'll probably be traded though, to a team looking for a decent guard off the bench who can run the point.

Korver is a 3pt specialist who can't hit the 3 this year. He has no other game and can't defend and to no one's suprise, King gave him a bloated contract.

There are some young players who have shown signs but Cheeks system.. or lack of.. is hurting their development. Carney, Louis Williams and Thaddeus Young are unknowns at this point and need to play more.

So basically what you're saying, is you don't really have shit.

Oh well... this year's draft is looking deep as all get out. If you can't rebuild in this one, you need yet another new GM.

See you in the finals again, Philly... in about 5 years. Instead of Bill Walton and Dr J, it might be Greg Oden and Michael Beasley, but we'll gladly embarrass you... again.

yeah, pretty much. And I'm not the biggest NBA fan.. more of a passive Sixers fan with an interest level slightly above CSI reruns. But I want to see all of the hometown teams do well. Hell, I'll be in here quicker then green flies on horeshit once the Sixers start winning and I freely admit it'll be a band wagon leap of faith.

The Sixers actually played hard down the stretch last year unlike some other eastern confernece teams and missed a lottery pick as a result. It hurt their future but showed respect for the game. I kinda appreciated that.

Can't wait. Ok, yes I can.

As did I.

There were these two teams from the northwestern part of the country that didn't make a mockery of the game, either, and played as hard as they possibly could until the final buzzer of the 82nd game... and those two teams got the top two picks...

Freaking justice.

And I'll tell you what...

After that, I doubt you'll find one person around here with so much as one bad word to say about Mo Cheeks. Hell, he could slaughter puppies in the streets and he'd get a pass. There's people around here who consider that the greatest moment in the hostory of professional sports. When things couldn't have gotten any worse for that poor girl, Mo steeped on up to share in her shame, and draw the attention to himself.

The man is a straight-up stud, and always will be.
