Front Running Jayhawk Fan Has Come to the Party

As a lifelong Jayhawk fan I have typically avoided this forum like the plague. Kansas has been fairly bad during my life, and I've reached halftime of my life so it's not like I'm going off a small sampling of bad football! I've always followed the team and always hoped, but never really had any reason to get excited. KU lost four games with Dana Stubblefield and Gilbert Brown anchoring the D-line. Actually being able to get involved in any kind of National Championship discussion always seemed unfathomable. That said, I'm going to make my one appearance in here and start quite possibly my only thread and be a semi-obnoxious Jayhawk fan.
This football is kind of fun if you have a winning team. I never really knew! It's interesting to be as interested in the football team as the basketball team (who looks pretty damn good as well)......As a Kansas fan one is always waiting for the other shoe to fall. When watching a game you are always waiting for the inevitable meltdown mostly because it is obvious that the other team is the "better" team. This time for maybe the first time ever, I feel like Kansas would match-up with anybody. And trust me when I say I've never had that feeling before. What makes this year even more fun and I don't believe I'm saying this is having Missouri good as well. It only seems fitting that this two "below-average" teams are having lifetime seasons in the same year. I truly hope they both win out prior to meeting at Arrowhead.....that would be good times; dangerous times perhaps, but good times.
Now on to the obnoxious first time to the talk of the championship party for the Jayhawks side of me! Was Kansas non-conference schedule weak, certainly it was and I won't defend it or apologize for it. If Kansas wins out and defeats Missouri and Oklahoma, they will play for the national title. If they don't it is only because they are named Kansas. Let's face it if Texas or Oklahoma or Nebraska had played Kansas' EXACT same schedule and had their EXACT same results they would be ranked #1 or #2 in the country RIGHT now and nobody would be saying diddly-piss about their schedule. I truly believe though that if they win out they will jump over LSU and Oregon. Are LSU and Oregon better.........I have no idea; and honestly, I never thought I could say that about Kansas. Rant over.
I hope they win out but being a realist I know they probably won't. Regardless it has been one hell of a fun run and something I'm glad I got to experience at least a little taste of in my life.
Either way...........there's always basketball...........lol.

that is cool...I know that when Mason was there KU had a couple nice seasons...so this is a welcome site for KU fan I am sure...
kind of like the reverse for tOSU fan in B Ball...yeah we had some nice years with Jimmy Jackson but now that Thad is on patrol...we can at least be top 20 competitive on a year in and year out basis...
good for the KU program...

I actually went to the KU/NU game this weekend. I flew out from Seattle to spend the weekend in Lawrence (that's where I went to high school). As a lifelong Husker fan, it really sucks to watch this debacle known as the Callahan era. That said, I have always rooted for KU except when it comes to playing the Huskers. But I really didn't have a problem with KU winning this time. It's obvious that the defense has just quit.
The highlights:
-Lawrence High's Brandon McAnderson with 4 TDs
-Pregame tallboys of Natty Ice at the Crossing
-Boulevard Pale Ale
-Free State Brewery
-Hot young ladies everywhere
It was good to get back.

Yeah, they probably should have mixed in games against Vandy and Ole Miss to go along with the epic Florida International matchup.
Then they can claim their schedule was a "meat grinder" and that they should be in the title game with 3 losses.

or in the Big 12 if they would have played Oklahoma and Texas. Missouri will beat Kansas by 2 TDs.
We'll see about Mizzou..........but I'd take Kansas +14........
AND, in order to win the Big 12 they would have to play Oklahoma.
Don't hate gentlemen, just let this poor Kansas fan dream for another week or two, that's all I ask!

If Kansas wins out, they’ll have to beat Missouri and probably Oklahoma back to back. There’s no one left on LSU’s schedule except for the championship against Georgia or Tennessee. No one left on Oregon’s schedule is going to help them a lot with the computers.
I’d say if Kansas and LSU both win out, LSU has a much greater shot at playing Hawaii than Kansas does.

By the time LSU gets done with them, Arkansas will be a 5-loss team. Which should leave them barely in the top 25.

Kentucky could be a 5 loss team by the time things shake out. How'd that game turn out for the Bayou Bengals?

OK, let me clarify. My point was that if LSU and Kansas both win out, that Kansas could easily be in the title game. If LSU were to lose to Arkansas, that argument obviously becomes mook. Er, moot.

Man, I was wondering where in the hell you were Mook.
@ Okie St might be a though one for you guys, Okie St is decent when they don't have mental breakdowns. I too would really like to see both KU and MU win out, that will make for a hell of a game and it will also be the first time someone besides Nebraska, Colorado or Kansas St has won the North.

I still believe that were Kansas to win out, they’d have a decent shot at slipping past LSU. It might not come down to LSU just winning, but rather
how they win.

Right, because everyone will be so impressed with a
schedule ranked 106th in the country.

I'm guessing it might improve with wins over Ok. State, Missouri and Oklahoma................but maybe that's just the booze talking.

Jsc I don't mean to offend but over the last month I have become less and less impressed with LSU. Can't keep expecting to barely slip by decent to less than decent compition and expect to remain where you are. JMHO.

And Bama beat themselves choking in the 4th quarter... That was a catch by the way.

Get ready for the bandwagon you are perched upon to crash, Mook. OSU will beat Kansas and you and your "I love all things Kansas (as long as they're winning)" attitude will change accordingly.

Not a bandwagon fan Mr. Indy......always been a fan, sat through many a 70-0 drubbing at the hands of OU/NU and the like over the years.........just never had a reason to be proud of the football team. And yes, I'm prepared for the inevitable loss.....like I told some others, just let me enjoy the brief moment that the sun is shining on this dogs ass.

Comparing apples to baseball stadiums. tO$U has a storied history of success in hoops including a dominant run in the 60's that produced a title of the non-mythical variety. Of more recent vintage in the post-JJ era you had the FF squad with Michael Redd and Scoonie Penn. The ending to the O'Brian era may have been ugly but the success was still there. Just because tO$U has an extremely apathetic hoops fanbase doesn't mean the program has been shitty. Just the "fans" are shitty.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, tO$U doesn't deserve a coach as good as Matta.

storied in the 60's ok...70 through mid 80's they weren't anything special...late 80's to early 90's they were very good...then the back end of the Ayers years were HORRIBLE...ok the O Brien era started good...but ended horribly...

i think the point is clear. kansas fans are still kansas fans even if they don't run smack about their perennial 2-9 football team. [the lumps you speak of are implied simply by being a ku fan.] now that they're excited their team is reasonably close to a shot at the mnc doesn't mean they're fairweathered, bandwagoning, bitches, or perhaps even tards. if my alma mater ever happened to win more than one or two games a year and contend for a conference championship, i'd probably watch a little more closely than i usually do. i might even go as far as to <gasp> post a thread on a message board saying i hope they win and play in a bowl game.
you occupy space here more to call ppl bitches than to actually talk about your team. what's that make you, a tard?

The reason I say they don't is because he is well on his way, if he isn't there already, to being one of the truly elite coaches in the game. A fanbase that cares more about spring football and football recruiting IMO doesn't deserve that caliber of a coach.

I'm sure everyone in here would be delighted to talk Jayhawk football during one of their typical seasons. I'm sure those threads would be met with either:
a) no response
b) get the fuck out of here until you can talk about a real football program
c) Kansas.......isn't that a basketball school
Don't worry, I'll be back in to take my lumps. God knows I take them on the CBB board every March........lol.

Agreed they catch some flak about their schedule but they are a near unanimous #1 and will unquestionably play for the national title. Kansas may or may not play for the title should they go 13-0.........If they go 13-0 and don't play for the national title the reason will be because of the name of the school and not their schedule, as the 2007 Ohio State Buckeyes would prove.
